I picked up a very clean Remington 700 CDL in 300 Win Mag a week or so ago here on the EE forums. Owner claimed only 10 rounds fired. When it arrived, a quick examination showed that this rifle had been used very little, so an honest statement from the owner is evident.
Started on it, disassembled & cleaned it up inside thoroughly, still had some factory packing grease in spots. This rifle is pristine. Then went after the trigger [7.5 lbs as it came from the factory, and with a bit of creep] Had some problems getting it down past 5½ lbs, so swapped it out for a proven Remington trigger I had laying around. Adjusted it to a nice, crisp 3 lbs.
Now the real test. Loaded 10 rounds each of 180 Partition, 180 Accubond, 195 Chinchaga (bonded) and 200Accubond. To my delight, nothing shot badly. Worst group about 1¼" The 180Accubond load rewarded me with a very nice 3-shot, .31" group. Tried this load at 200 as well, made a neat 1" 3-shot group, so looks like it will go hunting!
Keep in mind, this is a recent factory Remington, with no bedding, no free-floating of the barrel, only the trigger work. Fit and finish is excellent. Also, this rifle appears to have a nice, "snug" factory chamber, which lends to accuracy as well. I am pleased with this new toy. [All you Remington bashers, take note!! LOL] Regards, Eagleye.
