I picked up a very clean Remington 700 CDL in 300 Win Mag a week or so ago here on the EE forums. Owner claimed only 10 rounds fired. When it arrived, a quick examination showed that this rifle had been used very little, so an honest statement from the owner is evident.

Started on it, disassembled & cleaned it up inside thoroughly, still had some factory packing grease in spots. This rifle is pristine. Then went after the trigger [7.5 lbs as it came from the factory, and with a bit of creep] Had some problems getting it down past 5½ lbs, so swapped it out for a proven Remington trigger I had laying around. Adjusted it to a nice, crisp 3 lbs.

Now the real test. Loaded 10 rounds each of 180 Partition, 180 Accubond, 195 Chinchaga (bonded) and 200Accubond. To my delight, nothing shot badly. Worst group about 1¼" The 180Accubond load rewarded me with a very nice 3-shot, .31" group. Tried this load at 200 as well, made a neat 1" 3-shot group, so looks like it will go hunting!

Keep in mind, this is a recent factory Remington, with no bedding, no free-floating of the barrel, only the trigger work. Fit and finish is excellent. Also, this rifle appears to have a nice, "snug" factory chamber, which lends to accuracy as well. I am pleased with this new toy. [All you Remington bashers, take note!! LOL] Regards, Eagleye.

"...Had some problems getting it down..." Rem 700 trigger are adjustable.

"...only the trigger work..." Sometimes that's all it takes. U.S. manufacturers are terrified, with cause, of frivolous law suits. Free-floating the barrel doesn't always make any difference either.
"....31" group..." Repeatable?

I have probably adjusted more Remington triggers in my life than you would imagine, but occasionally you get one that will not respond to the adjustment procedure. This was one of those. Easier to swap in another trigger group than disassemble and fart with the lousy one. I just shot 4 groups with it, 3 at 100, 1 at 200. The groups were as follows: .42", .31", .47" and .98" at 200. Close enough for me! Eagleye.

Just like my 308 Norma Mag, Rembo?? :) Eagleye.

Everytime I turn around, someone is telling me how Remington quality control has gone to pot in the last couple of decades. Trouble is, the darn rifles just seem to keep shooting, in spite of the stories.

+1. I had a 700 in 223 a while back (10-15 years maybe), horrible trigger. Luckily I had a few spares laying around, swapped on in and adjusted it, good to go. - dan
