The Ambi Safety is almost ready to be released but before we do are going to do a limited release in the hope of getting a little more feed back before running off a batch of 250.

They are quite easy to install.

Sorry about the pics but i used the shop gun for pics this time.

So, we have 10 sets available to any willing guinea pigs. cost is $35 shipped.

Nice. Will it index in more than one position?

yeah, two positions.

The 10 went in a matter of hours, we have a total of 20 on hand so we are going to let the fianl 10 go, there are 8 left. We will be releasing the production version in oct.

How in the hell do you get the selector out? Is that a roll pin that retains it on the right side of the receiver?

Edit: nevermind. It's a set screw, not a roll pin and I got it out.

It's not too hard to install once you stop getting the wrong instructions. ;) Apparently not all of these rifles have the set screw retainer on the selector.

So here's the way to take your old one out:
1) remove set screw if applicable. It's small and metric and mine was in really tight.
2) make sure the selector is in the right position (safe, IIRC) so you can push it through from the left. If the selector is not in the right position the thing that comes off the trigger is in a notch on the selector. This prevents the selector from being pushed through.
3) push and wiggle it to get it out. The spring that keeps it in safe/fire positions my need to be pushed down to help it out. It's the flat spring on the bottom right side of the receiver.

Install the new one in reverse order. You may need to depress the spring again and ensure the trigger thingy doesn't interfere with the end or the notch on the selector.

To install the left side lever:

1) figure out how you want it indexed.
2) use a small nail or pin punch to line up the holes
3) drive the roll pin in. As it goes in, it will push the nail out the other side. You don't need a lot of force to push the roll pin in. Too much will bend the end of the selector shaft. I used a small brass hammer.

Note that the rotation of the safety is reversed. Push forward on the right side to fire. I indexed mine so that the left side lever sits level when on safe. My thumb rides on top of it and pushes it down/forward to fire. This works very nicely. Use your trigger finger to reapply the safety by pulling it down/rearward.

The pin on the left side lever is quite small. It's easy to lose when you drop it. The shaft isn't splined so you have to line up the holes manually to drive the pin in. I found a small finishing nail through the opposite side to the pin helpful in lining them up. With the nail in place, tap the pin in from the other side. It's way easier than trying to eyeball the hole line up.

I'm considering cutting the lever off the right side so the selector is only on the left. I need to shoot it a bit to see if I want to do that.

I can see that if you own multiple VZs and want to use this safety you will need to convert all of your rifles to this configuration. Otherwise you'll have guns that have safeties that work in opposite directions. Not good.

Set screw is in the circle:

As has been mentioned this is a development version, not the upcoming final version.

The selector will not rotate a full 90 degrees unless you modify it. The tail on the selector will be changed to address this on the production version.

Before, safety on:

After a bit of Dremel work, safety on:

Left side selector, safety on:

Ignore the tool marks on the left side lever. I did that, they didn't come that way from NEA.

A couple more points.

I rounded the edges on both selectors. Now they're more comfortable to operate.

Don't over tighten the set screw retainer. It will make the selector harder to turn than necessary. If the selector is dificult to rotate, just back out the set screw until it turns more easily.

This is a fantastic item. With it indexed as I've pictured above you don't need to adjust your firing grip to select fire. Just flick the lever with your thumb and you're ready to rock. It's also easier to reapply the safety by pulling it with your trigger finger.

Another great NEA part. Two thumbs up.

I have the NEA Ambi Safety installed on my VZ-58L.
It's a great accessory. I just have a question regarding how it sits laterally.
The original safety has a shallow notch cut into the shaft, where a "c" ring (for lack of a better word), clamps onto it.
IMG_8110.jpg

This "c" ring/clamp keeps the safety from moving side to side.
The Ambi Safety does not have this notch cut into it, and the "c" ring/clamp won't fit.
IMG_8113ed.jpg

This allows the safety to move laterally. The problem this causes for me is that the safety selector lever can get caught/stuck on the edge of the receiver's side.
IMG_8019.jpg

(As you can see, the side of the receiver has a little ridge just below the safet).
I don't know how to prevent this from happening. A
Anybody have any ideas on what to do? My only recourse is to maybe file down the side of the receiver, but that seems a little bubba-ish.
I look forward to your input.

The VZ 58L model had this due to the full auto selector retainer. But when the front part of the reciever was filled in allowing this rilfe never ever to be used in that matter. The end reasult means there might be an issue as to how your sear spring is configured.
Please reffer to the pic bellow to notice the difference between the 2.

Please post back a picture and some one on here will tell you, if you need to mod your rifle to make this work or if it's just simply plug and play.

if its loose, let me know and i will have one modified here at the shop.

Thanks for the responses.
I've never owned the CZ-858, but yeah on my VZ-58L the ambi safety is a bit loose from side to side, and as a result the selector lever can be a bit wobbly and catch on that damn ridge on the side of the receiver. I'm not sure what, if anything, can be done to cure this, aside from just living with the wobble and filing down that ridge so it doesn't catch.
