Milsurp Online Tournament: 100, 200, 300, 500, and 1,000 yards ~ MATCH #2 NOW ON

Enfield-Springfield day

Well tried out the Enfield Mk 1V and the Springfield 03A1 today. Felt nice to warm these old girls after too long an absence.
The Enfield::: Well all I can say is that I really need to do some load development on her. Maybe she's only a 100 yd rifle. We will see. Here's a pic of one of her 10 shot targets today. DISMALLLLLLLLLLL

She will have better days. LOL

Now as for the 03A1. First target was just getting on target. Second was pretty good. I then smoked the front sight and the third target was the winner for the day. Pretty happy with it, but might try and refine the sight picture a little more and maybe on a calmer wind day. Here it is.

Just to let you know, Ardent, I am really enjoying this "thing" you are putting on. Nice to have a reason to get out there and warm some of these old timers up again. Much appreciated. More rifles and more targets yet to go.:)

By the way, thought I would show a picture of the setup I am using. Nice to not have any interruptions. Here's a cpl pics.

Good shooting to everyone.

Looks like I tied with Ardent on second attempt

I used my AIA No IV Mk4 ( which does actually feel a bit like cheating as it is a new manufacture not an oldie) and shot 95. I used 175 gr SMK over 41.5 N150 which were spare handloads I had made up for my Kimber.

Pics attached. ( of course the rifle is for sale on the EE to pay for my new expensive Black Rifle toys but now I don't feel so keen to let her go LOL !!)

Here are the pics:

We need more folks to try 200 yards, 10 M1 Garand enblocs on the line!

Okay, okay......I'll be sending 100m targets for an Izzy Mauser and M1 Garand. The 100m grouping with the M38 Mosin was cancelled by an extractor that broke when trying to unload a rifle with severe "Mosin Sticky Bolt!"

For 200, I'll send what I got with my Garand and Poly M305 (sadly the second group of five grouped a bit too low!)

Note to self: I should have gotten a decent score if I used all the time and ammo expenditure on one rifle, but I've been dying to try them all, lol!

Cheers,

Frank

After a mucho frustrating day, here is my entry, 79 points

The rifle is a 1944 Izhvesk 91/30 sniper & the ammo is milsurp. The scope, base & mount came off another gun & I spent a good amount of ammo & time zeroing it. I have shot better but it seems I can never get my "stuff" together when I want too shoot tight. Oh well it ain't bad for milsurp. I brought my Paki No4 but didn't have any ammo that conformed to the requirements ( I shoot mostly cast out of enfields) so I bought a box of privi at epps. The counterman gave me a box & I left. Later, I noticed it was 150grn hunting ammo instead of the 174fmj I wanted & by the time I got it zeroed I had 5 rnds left & epps was closed. Ain't life a #####? Too bad, its a nice shooter. Advice for future reference, print more targets!

Hey, nothing wrong with 79 as those targets are more than enough to be 'dead' and you know what, that puts you in the lead for sniper class. :D Heck, for 7.62x54R surplus, I take those as damn fine groups, and again, those targets wouldn't be walking away... I focused on hitting center for this shoot instead of grouping, as in the real world that's what matters, and you're 70% in the black. I'll put you in the standings now.

500 yards. Wow, what a struggle just to get a place to set up a target. Initially planned on setting up a sighter target first, but after quadding across a swamp to set it up, i knew I only had a cpl more trips across before I was never getting out of there. So I ended up just shooting the patched up sighter target. Too bad, I would really have liked to shoot it again. Maybe this winter when everything freezes up I can do it again. But for now. Here it is.

And it's official, first match is over. :) Results on page 1, time to start planning the next match, redryder I've "got your number" for the longer stuff in the next one and will do my best to take your crown. :p

I'll rebarrel my VZ24 to 7x57 this winter, its 8x57 barrel is dark and tired. Have a Lyman rear sight to put on that's still in the box. We'll see how the M98 rig stacks up against your deadly Swede.

Tomochan, thanks for the AIA entry, was neat having the 100 yard go to a tie, but with about 80 years age spread between the rifles. While I'd hoped more of the roughly 50 target emails sent out would come back, we had a good first go.

Big thanks to desporterizer for fitting his shoot into the closing days and representing the Soviet arms, added just that much more, we almost reached a CFL number of competitors. ;)

And Old Ranger, well done! 1 point off a 3 way 100 yard tie! I'd say we can see where the 100 yard score bottleneck is.

Thanks again to all shooters, and open to your suggestions/requests for the next shoot. :)
