Great match!
I visited this thread only because I wanted to say how much fun I had at my first multi-gun match. I thought it was a challenging, interesting setup. I really like the reactive nature of the targets (both the steel and clays) and the way they were positioned made them fun to engage. Therefore hats off to the organisers.
For colt45, I don't know you personally but here are my thoughts on your comments.

O.K.., let me be the first to coment on this match.... and I even didn't shoot it (like I tell my three year old when he won't eat his dinner...try it and you may just like it!)
the stage run down..
start prone shooting at mini clay targets at 120 yds....and no follow up shots permitted if you miss... yes...no follow ups... ( Spelled out clearly in the match flyer... "No Follow Up Shots" for precision, carbine and shotgun portions of match. )
then: after prone you get up and go to carbine and there are 3 or 4 barriers to shoot behind from either side and from each of those you shoot at one ipsc target (in middle - 1 shot virginia) then on both sides of that there are 2 of those mini clay targets to shoot, so 4 of them and 1 paper per section/barrier (all these at approx. 8 - 10 yds.) ....WTF .. mini clay targets to shoot at in whats suppose to be close quarters carbine ? ? ! ! (They looked like standard size clay targets to me. )
and again... no follow up shots on misses.... ( again )
i have a raised mount (3"raised) 1.25 - 4x scope....which will be shooting very low of point of aim ...and freestyle.... and I'm suppose to shoot 5"( or whatever size) clay target ... Yes, it's close, but I'll be hitting very low from zero and hard to gauge and I may miss by 1mm. and I can't follow up ? I watched one guy shoot and he only hit one out of 12 or 16 of them... and was told previous guy missed most of them too... ( And I hit 13 of 16 with my friend's SKS which I had never shot before in my life, maybe you would have plunked them all had you actually shot the match!)
I mean, I was there to just have fun and put to use some new gear I got, put to use a new scope for my AR and have fun with my Glock 19, that I don't shoot so often....and always fun to blast my shotgun... ( it must have been much more fun to not shoot...)
But, I do it to have fun...and this set up was just (for lack of a better word) stupid.... those clays were not far, but you're pretty much being forced into another precision shot with a gun that most would not have had it set up for...I believe most have carbines set up at 100 yds... as most close quarters targets are usually bigger...or at least 12" target zone or painted hard cover over portion of ipsc target..etc...(and an 1" or so drop or rise on closer targets is fine, cause you know to adjust for such a shot)... these shots are for quick acquisition ... tap tap and move one to next target....
( So... your carbine is set up for 100yds and your complaining that you have to hit a 5 inch clay at 10 yds? How big of a target do you use to set up your gun at 100yds? Maybe this is my inexperience with multigun matches shining through but shouldn't you be able to AT LEAST get as good precision from your carbine as you do with your pistol? To me it sounds like the set up of your equipment is more aptly described by your above comment about the match set up. But then again, maybe this is just me inexperience with multigun matches. )
It would have just been more fustrating than fun !!! If it was for free, than I'd shoot it for the hell of it and practise...but by my choice.... I'm not going to pay for just wasting ammo ... missing and maybe even gotten a few of them... but thats not the point... ( If you are frustrated by shooting, maybe you should take up golf, I heard that that isn't frustrating at all!)
I would of been o.k. to shoot those little clays with my pistola at that distance, if that was the case... ( would you have? really? )
I'm making point that none of us are applying to be on the special opts..of navy seals etc..I don't have problem if I have a miss or two....but if design is of such that you'll be missing half the F'n targets... there's something wrong with stage set up..? ? ( you would only know how many targets you would have missed if you had shot the match...)
I felt a little bad for not staying and wasting a slot... but then as i drove home with my girlfriend who was interested to see me shoot a multi gun as she has seen ipsc...wanted to video tape me...and I realized, if anything I should be upset for wasting my time driving there and to be let down by that... ( oh I get it now, did you mistake this for an IPSC match?)
YES, I DO APPRECIATE THE EFFORT ORGANIZORS put into match set up....
But am I wrong for at least expecting they put on a match that is somewhat realistic to what an average shooter, expert or novice shooter can come out and enjoy themselves..and with better rules, etc...? especially if they're going to spend their hard earned $$ .. ( Ummm I'm a novice at this and I had a ball I would gladly spend my hard earned $$ that way anyday. )
If your going to put on some weird stages.. at least tell people what to expect so they come out knowing such... I know you can't explain every part.. but something odd and not practical like shooting carbine at mini clays is kinda out of the norm...so i think... I haven't been to too many 3-4 gun matches... but never expected this.....one or two crazy shots is devilish and fun set up... not half the match... ( Did you see the match flyer? )
I'm pretty sure most who shot that left fustrated/ disappointed ..... and thinking what the heck man ? I should have left with Stavros and gone for lunch....and just talked gun stuff..... ( I for one didn't leave frustrated, my buddy who I shot with didn't either... that makes two anyone else? )
I've never complained about a match before since 1995. This is a first for me... and I hope the last... ( I hope the last too, its really not becoming. But then again I don't really know you. )
Maybe it's just me...maybe cause I can't shoot straight, I'm a whiner ? ? ( perhaps if you had tried shooting the match you could comment on how straight you actually shot... and then you wouldn't be a whiner. )
I know we all appreciate the volunteer time put into matches... but is it wrong to hold them accountable for at least doing a competant job of such ?
IMO yes it is wrong to hold them "accountable". These aren't elected officials, they're not bringing home huge sums of money for running these things, (or am I wrong on that one?). They're spending precious time, often in crappy weather, with the stress of hoping that the match goes smoothly, that no-one gets hurt. All all the while knowing that they can NEVER please everyone. I am amazed that there is anyone willing to put on things like this, as such I do as much as I can to help out and praise the organisers. never would I think to try to hold them accountable for setting up a match that was not to my taste.
