I tend to use 7 1/2 for most of my action shooting. Standard trap loads.

They work fine for static or active clay targets as well as 90% of the steel targets out there.

Some people like to go for largert shot for steel............
 
The other thing people are going to want to pay close attention to, is your pattern; specifically what the pattern is doing at various distances. Different chokes will give you tighter or looser patterns, which may be required/prudent in certain situations!;)

I believe, this kind of equipment is only allowed in Open division. So, it is used to be popular before arrival of shotguns with box magazines, i.e. Saiga and Molot.

If you dig in the internet, you may also find variant of quick reload, when the whole magazine tube is detached and replaced with another one, but those are also slower then box magazines.

The vids you posted are the fastest method currently used in north america.
That's the only hint I'll give.

Although your new method is fast, I still think that the weak hand reload can be faster, especially during movement/transitioning.

Keep the gun to your shoulder and stuff'em in the bottom.
You can fire right after the last shell is loaded.

Can't say that with the other method.

You just need more practice to be proficient with the weak hand
hopefully I'll have it running on autopilot when this event rolls around.
I'm getting there.

Take no offense, but I'd rather watch that girl load "girly" than any of you guys anyday :)

I definitely like that Noveske training vid better than the US Army one. They break it down much better than the US Army does.

Of note too, I would not recommend loading from the box either. I was holding a conversation with a fellow competitor while i was loading from the box and inadvertently loaded a shell in backwards causing a serious stoppage.
 
vids can be found on global village, its fast but not so great for multi-gun as it doesn't leave any space for a holster & rifle/pistol mags
 
The chest rig is real easy! The manual dexterity needed to do a weak hand reload out of a Caddy is paramount. Anyone with opposable thumbs could use the Chest Rig, which is why it is so popular in Europe. I really don't think there is a time difference, once someone gets good at the weak hand reload.

Madness brings up a good point about Multigun, as well, I am not so sure about going prone with the chest rig, I imagine the shells would be spread all over, as well as be uncomfortable as all get out! It doesn't work as well with a Remington either! The loading port is small, and you are fighting the shell lifter. Works good with the Mossberg, and I imagine will work good with the Benelli Nova/SuperNova!

It is certainly fun to play around with, and I want to get to the range and time myself using both methods. My guess is there won't be much difference!

I've been on Badboybeeson's case to run another shotgun only match.

I'm not interested in IPSC/IDPA, but I sure as hell like action/combat shotgun.

Clinic is a great idea as well.
 
Im in for the clinic and the shoot. It would be my first time participating in a shotgun match. I dont have any tactical or speed gear, but I'll be sure to get a side saddle at least. Any other recommendations, or should I wait till after the event to see what other people use? See my options and such...

Yes, it was my intention to go through some various equipment and it's uses.
Basically, we want to get more people involved in the shooting sports, most people have some form of shotgun, hunting or otherwise, so it will be a run what you brung type of match, but also a competitive aspect as well.

Also, with a clinic type affair, people that have never shot something like this, can get into the rule sets, and safety aspects of IPSC, USPSA, IDPA, and Multigun, which I think would be easier to ease into with a shotgun!

And yes, a lot of people use a Side Saddle.
