Any ideas? I would like bolt action, and already have tons of .223 because of my Norc Cq so I figured it would make sense to get same caliber...

any in particular?

I am not sure of exact price points; however, a model Savage 11FCNS or Stevens 200 might do the trick. I believe that Savage also has some package guns with the rifle and scope included. Again, you would need to research the exact price.

Ruger Mini 14 is way more than $600. The best bang for your buck, would be to find something used on EE. If you wanted Brand New, then you would have to get a bolt action Black Synthetic, with Blued Barrel, in various brands. Savage, Remington, Weatherby, just to name a few.

Try to find a bolt action rifle with a twist rate similar to your semi auto. That way a load you develop for the one will not be incompatible with the other. I have a bolt action 223 rifle I really like, a Ruger 77 MarkII All weather, but its 1:12 twist rate makes it favor completely different ammo than my 1:8 twist target AR. The 1:12 loves 45 grain bullets, and the AR hates them. Vice versa for 69 grain sierra match kings.

I don't reload and don't really plan to...

I pity the fool that gets a mini-14
:)

LMAO! Your right about the regular mini14. My friend has one, & the best he can do from the bench is 5" to 6" groups. The target model mini with the barrel resonator gets much better groups, but for $1K I would go with something else.
IMHO Savage rifles are the best mix of value for $ & accuracy right out of the box.

I think this is sage advice. You might not reload now, but you might later. Can't hurt to be prepared; it won't cost any extra in this case.

Is that because you know that once you start, you can't stop? :D

For under $600 in 223, I can't think of too many choices. A stevens 200 can be had for about $319 at Kenora Canadian tire. I've seen Rem SPS for about $599.

I'd also give thought to an Marlin XS7 in 243. Just because everyone says they shoot great and it comes with an adjustable trigger for around $400 or so. 243 is a pretty versatile caliber. No XS7 in 223 as yet though.
