Valmet 78

An 11lb 308 that shoots 3-4MOA for 4500 bucks is a waste of money. Had one for years, clunky as hell and not very accurate. Only upside to it was that it was ~680 brand new from Lever Arms in 1984 with 3 mags and sold for 3700 two years ago.

Yeah, I've owned a couple as well. I would pay the appreciation adjusted price at ~1400, but not a bunch more. M14/VZ858/classic green are on the market doing better in each caliber.

I know of a Valmet 78 that is for sale at present. It's chambered in 7.62x39. If you're interested, drop me a pm and i will send you the link OP. I'll warn you now though, it's pretty expensive.

I'd be very, very curious to find out how many were imported in the country over the years. Wouldn't be surprised if there were hundreds, possibly thousands of these things "unaccounted for".

Different than the others already linked in this thread?

It should be different. There are only 5 or 6 CGNers that i know of in my general area so the pool of people who know about this rifle is rather limited.

To those who are interested, the price of the rifle is around 6-7 grand so if you really want it, PM me and i'll drop you the link but if you are looking at a Valmet Rifle, a Hunter model might be more cost effective @ 2500$ish or so. I won't be trying to buy this 78 as it is out of my price range and i don't have any need for this rifle at present.

For the record, i do not know the guy who is selling the rifle. I'm only trying to help out CGNers' interested in this type of rifle. Let me know if you are interested and i'll set you up with contact info.

Hmm well the one I was referring to is:

Regardless of which they are all way out of my $$$ range for sure :(

For 1/4 of that price, I buy a few SVT-40 and convert them into SVD look alikes. Much nicer than the Valmet 78 too. Let's be honest, it looks prohibited but it's also very fugly.

I'd rather spend my money on nice new stuff, like the new CSA carbines and compacts, put some nice folders on it, wow, for under $1,500, can't be much nicer.

Couldn't disagree more. The M78 is a gorgeous firearm.

The only thing I don't like about Baal's is that he dosn't have the wooden pistol grip :p

generally, the .308 had wood foregrips while the .223 has black plastic foregrips.
Never seen wood pistol grips on either cal.

There are 5 of the M78 non-hunters in 308 registered. Not sure how many Alan Lever had imported, most likely more than that.

I very much doubt if the entire production run of the Civilian version was more than a 5,000. So kinda hard to have hundreds just in Canada, let alone thousands.

LOL, don't take it personally, I am talking about the gun.

I would probably say the same if I would own one, but honestly, even for $1,000, I would still prefer the SVT-40, I think most people would if they were readily available and not scarce.

It always seems as if people want what they cannot have, then if it comes available, interest fades.
