I have a 597 with a synthetic stock, I upgraded the hammer with a VQ one, put a Tasco 2.5-10x40 mil-dot scope on it and a Winchester 13" bipod and got a 30round mag for it. I like the gun it's fun to shoot and is pretty accurate I can do 1" or less groups at 50yards (5shots) if I try.
Now that 597VTR and SR-22 are out I wouldn't mind upgrading my .22 rifle. (only have one and want to keep it that way). I handled both as well as the Baikal and S&W and like Ruger the best.
I always hear that Remington is more accurate than Ruger so I'm wondering how much am I going to give up in accuracy with the SR?
Would you do it? sell the gun and access. and get a SR-22 or keep the 597? AND I know if I get a VTR I can use the same mags and hammer but I just don't like it as much as Ruger so I'd rather keep my gun.
Also another question what would a stock used in VG cond. 597 go for? and how much could I ask for my set up?
