I am interested in hearing from anyone who has first hand experience with this particular rifle, like build quality, fit/finish, recoil and accuracy. I own a 350 mag in the classic but was wondering what these tiny little model 7s are like?

I do not own one, but handled and shot one that a co-worker owns. His rifle was very light and slick handling, but the recoil was not for the timid with full powered handloads. I liked it quite a bit and would consider it a first rate carrying rifle for big game at moderate ranges.

Like Northman999 I do not own a M7 CDL but I do own an even lighter Remington Custom Shop M7 "KS" in 350RM. I've just begun loading for it and really like it.

However in the last few years I've handled and looked over several of the new M7 CDLs in 350RemMag at Epps. Beautiful little classic rifles and the 350s come with iron sights. The fit and finish were top drawer on the two I looked over. Didn't buy because of my other similar rifles at home. BTW Remington's spec sheet on their website for it is in error on the length and twist. I prefer it to the 673 because of it's 20" tube, lighter weight and sans rib. Should perform similarly though. As to a comparison with your classic, it's a slightly peared down version of it - little difference except the OAL because of the 2" shorter barrel (assuming your classic has a 22" tube) and shorter M7 action. The newer SuperCell™ recoil pad may be superior to what your classic uses for recoil but - ???

It'll probably (???) have a very long throat like all my Remington made 350RMs - a Custom Shop Model Seven "KS" from the early 90s, a M600 and a M660 from the 60s. A buddy's 673 from 2003 had the same long throat and shot accurately too. Mine all shoot accurately also, and function and cycle well with just about anything I load. I'm guessing your classic has that almost Weatherby type freebore too - but that's just a guess based the other Remington 350RMs of my acquaintance. My buddy with the 673 also owned a classic in 350RM at one time. I never asked him about the throat.

I had one in 350. Its a little stout on recoil with full house 250's @ 2450 fps. Its limited to 2.8" OAL in the magazine. I shot Speer 250's and 250 Hornady Interlock RN out of it no problem. Although I did have to crimp my bullets as the recoil was pushing the bullets back into the cases in the magazine when I fired. I used 57gr Win 748 with a Fed 215 LRM primer. I got 1 1/4" 3 shot groups. I sold it when I got my custom Parker/Hale 35 Whelen and picked up a steel receiver Browning BLR in 358 Win.
Its a nice rifle, I think you would like it. Fit and finish were great. I kinda wish I still had it.http://s574.photobucket.com/albums/ss181/Charlie38_2009/?action=view&current=Model7CDL350REMMAG005.jpghttp://s574.photobucket.com/albums/ss181/Charlie38_2009/?action=view&current=Model7CDL350REMMAG004.jpg

Thanks for the replies guys. Charlie, those pictures of the model 7 are great. You don't see many of them kicking around do you. I also have an older model 81 in the 358. I've used it on bear, moose and deer. Love that rifle and the recoil is definitely less than my 350 mag. I'll have to try your loading recipe in mine. Cheers.

I have a 350 in a stainless/laminate model 7. I like it, its light, and quick handling. Recoil isnt near as bad as some make it out to be.

I recently acquired a Remington 673 in .350 mag with the Model 7 action. Light, handy, shoots well (the most 'stout' caliber I own mind you, not for the feint of heart), but IMO the open sights are all but useless for anything beyond 50 yards and even that could be pushing it. I intended to keep this as an open sight rifle, but I now realize this is not very suitable for my feeble eyes at least. Any suggestions for scoping this gun?

Iether a Leupold VXII 1-4x20mm
or a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x20.
These scope give generouse FOV and lots of eye relief for your thumper .350 mag.

Tikka.

Hey, quit stealing my thread you guys!! Just kidding, you will love your 350 with a smaller magnification scope. It goes without saying that having good eye relief is pretty much a must with the 350.

I use one in the Custom Shop Remington M7 MS (full manlicher stock), I have had good results with it at the range using 200gr Rem factory and 200gr Hornady spire points, it will hover around an inch and recoil is manageable, the rifle is a joy to carry, fit and finish is very good, as for handloading the results show that it also has a long throat like others have reported but it hasn't harmed the accuracy. Great caliber but hey I love 35's. Scope is a Bausch & Lomb Balvar 1.5-6.
bigbull

I'm obviously not in the same spending bracket as some, so I went for the VX-1 in 1-4x20. I like the short tube (and eye relief as mentioned) and the fact the parallax is adjusted at 75 yards. I never shoot anything beyond 50 to 75 yards! Thanks guys.

Yes, I know, it's a muzzle loader/shotgun scope. I don't see any problems with this...

That's a great choice!

I also have a .350 RM in a model 7 custom shop KS. Sweet little rifle and very versatile. Deer to moose bring it on. I have yet needed to shoot an animal twice with it. Everything drops stone dead at the first shot. Mine shoots 225 Nosler partitions into an inch all day long. Sadly I am likely going to sell it as I just bought a Britanny bird dog and it's worth about the same price as the rifle. I wanted the dog more than the rifle.
