Hey guys,
Finally got around to posting pictures of my new toy. It's pretty much (ok why be modest: it IS!) the best 30-30 around.
I've always loved Marlins, and the simplicity of the design. The only thing that annoyed me about them was how the round bolt/receiver design of the 336/1895 series let water/crap drip inside the action during bad weather. Whether this caused any real problems I can't say, but it did cause an unnecessary annoyance for me. Then I discovered this baby, and it was like the heavens opened up and invented what my imagination was asking for, albeit 64 years ago...
It's a 1946 Marlin Model 36 in 30-30. The "square" bolt stops crap from getting inside the action, and it came with a factory "V" sight - my favourite to shoot. (The white triangle is just a dab of paint marker that's easily removed if necessary.)
I've taken the rifle on a few fishing trips so far, and am hoping to get it out for deer this fall. I do love my 375 Taylor, but this little carbine is certainly giving it a run for its money. Shoots nice and tight, its a dream to carry, and keeps crap out of the action! Best of all, she's easy on the eyes.
*Yes, I know the 1894 series have the square bolt. But they are in pistol cartridges.*
