NB Moose season is over. . .

coach that sucks not to have gotten a moose.but at least you are still here to post about it.it could be worse.go onto the hunting NB or hunting nfld web sites and offer up a swapped hunt.you go to nfld and hunt moose/caribou and the other party comes to NB for a deer/bear hunt.can save a lot of bucks.might not be legal, there are places were a non resident MUST hunt with an outfitter/liecenced guide.

I think NFLD requires an outfitter.

Yes, it does. You have to get your non-resident big game license through an outfitter. As I said earlier, if caribou are your goal, there are fewer and fewer licenses being made available each year. Don't be surprised if caribou hunting for everyone except the First Nations folks ends before long. Moose, on the other hand, are aplenty for the foreseeable future.

I was lucky enough to draw a non resident NB moose tag this year. I shot a 51" bull the first day around 7pm. The hunt is a bit of a gong show, there are guys everywhere driving the roads and as well putting up signs claiming sections of crown and private land for their own. I shot my moose 50' from one of those signs that someone else had put up. I don't think anyone even hunted that area, the sign was maybe to keep it as a back up spot. I asked the CO's about it and they said it was BS and to ignore them, which we did anyway. The non resident draw entry and tag stood me $650. Not cheap, but much less cost then newfoundland.

There was also a hunter shot and killed on Saturday during the hunt, not good.

The rationale I read behind the short hunt is to give out as many tags as possible. I'd rather see fewer tags and a whole week if I was an nb resident. The weather was good thursday but terrible on friday/saturday. Lot of guys went home empty handed.

Tomorrow morning off to Newfoundland for a week with a party of 6. Have a tag for me and doing a bit of guiding with the outfitter for the other fellas.
