I was lucky enough to draw a non resident NB moose tag this year. I shot a 51" bull the first day around 7pm. The hunt is a bit of a gong show, there are guys everywhere driving the roads and as well putting up signs claiming sections of crown and private land for their own. I shot my moose 50' from one of those signs that someone else had put up. I don't think anyone even hunted that area, the sign was maybe to keep it as a back up spot. I asked the CO's about it and they said it was BS and to ignore them, which we did anyway. The non resident draw entry and tag stood me $650. Not cheap, but much less cost then newfoundland.
There was also a hunter shot and killed on Saturday during the hunt, not good.
The rationale I read behind the short hunt is to give out as many tags as possible. I'd rather see fewer tags and a whole week if I was an nb resident. The weather was good thursday but terrible on friday/saturday. Lot of guys went home empty handed.
Tomorrow morning off to Newfoundland for a week with a party of 6. Have a tag for me and doing a bit of guiding with the outfitter for the other fellas.
