Has anyone else removed the decocker from a Baby eagle?

I have a Baby Eagle in 9mm.

The thing points well, groups small, balances perfect. I love the darn thing!

But..... When I shoot it the de-cocking lever tends to hit my thumb as the slide moves forward after shooting a round, de-cocking the pistol.

The first few times it did this I thought I had a squib or a dud round and immediatly stopped firing, did a clearing drill and tore the pistol apart to clear a squib.....

Annoying to say the least, not to mention adding a bunch of time to my scores when shooting for points......

I thought about this for a bit, finally I realized I had to either sell the pistol, or simply remove the de-cocking lever.

I opted to remove the lever.....

The pistol works just fine but now it has no safety and it has a big gaping hole in the slide making it kind ugly looking. Now I don't/can't use it for anything but 'plinking' at the range as I can no longer use it for any kind of formal or informal matches as it has no safety. This doesn't REALLY bother me, but it is a consideration.

I don't want to get rid of it, so now I don't know what to do to make it pretty again.... Fill the holes and get it refinished, or just remove the lever from the LH side of the slide (grind down the paddle) and re-instal the de-cocker......

Ideas?

Cheers!

You realize, of course, that if you are to have an accidental discharge, and especially if someone gets hurt, you will be so far up Sh*t Creek that they won't even be able to find you on Google Earth.

And should you ever get back, every lawyer in Canada will be waiting to ream you solid.

And that's after you get out of prison, an older and hopefully wiser man, with a size 13 assh*le, and able to carry all your golf clubs hands free..

That's as stupid as disconnecting the brakes on your car so you can go faster.

There are U-Tube videos and Darwin Awards given for people who do things like that.

Highlander is correct beyond words. Besides that the thought of a size 13 rear should be motivation enough to do the right thing.
Put the decocking lever back on, sell it, and get something that fits.

That made my day...

x2

Somebody will be happy to buy it.

You could get a gunsmith to machine proper plugs for the slide, but it isn't economic - you could never sell it (for fear of liability), and even if you did sell it you'd never recover your cost - and - even having spent all that money - you would still find yourself excluded from Production Division.

I love my Jericho 941 as much as I love my Shadow. It had some FTF issues but after about 500 rounds it fed perfectly, I haven't had a single malfunction since. Its trigger is actually slightly better than the Shadow's. But I digress...

I found racking the slide awkward at first because of slide-mounted decocker but I got used to it. I never had a problem with my thumbs touching the slide though when firing. I'm sure you'll find adjusting your grip is relatively easy.

Just get a Tanfoglio or a CZ 75 with a frame-mounted safety. The grip shape is very similar.

I have an issue with my Baby Eagle too.

The Slide Release keeps jamming against my thumb when I fire. That is one big switch it has on the side...it SUX.

You don't know what a great slide release is...Sig, M&P, Glock....until you have that hug metal flipper in your way on the Baby Eagle :(

But I luv the Safety / Decocker switch on the top of the slide.

The AMBI- decocker is pressed down to decock (of course) before you holster. It stays in the down position were it now functions as a safety, pull the trigger and it will not #### the hammer. If you rack the slide with the switch down, it stays down and the hammer will not ####.

When you draw, you flip the switch up....and you're off :)

I think that's what most people have an issue with, the slide-mounted decocker is more awkward to manipulate than the frame-mounted one.

I only use my Jericho for plinking, so I wonder if anyone competes with it & has a fast & smooth technique for flipping the decocker up.

Using it as a safety is superfluous just decock when holstering.
If the slide lock/release lever is hitting your thumb, you also need to learn how to grip the gun properly (to who ever posted that comment)

Thank god my guns have their safeties intact, so that when I have accidental discharge, and shoot somebody, rainbows and butterflies will come out of the hole in them w:h:

Seriously?

How's about he just follows the fundamentals of safe firearm handling, and it doesn't matter if he has no manual safety and a 3 oz trigger. If he only puts his finger on the trigger when he's sure of his target and beyond, treats it as always being loaded, and doesn't point it anything he isn't willing to destroy, I'd be just fine shooting right next to him.

Thanks for the use of common sense curtmg.

Anytime you are in town drop me a line, the drinks on me!

Thats funny. I love the big slide release, and I have a glock and an M&P. The slide release is great on the Baby Eagle. I also really like the safety lever. Makes doing IDPA type shoots a breeze. I REALLY regret selling my two to get some revolvers for Cowboy. Of the things I have lost in life, I miss my mind the most, followed closely by my Baby Eagles (thanks OZZY).
