"...a Mattle toy..." A what?
The 10mm Auto isn't terrible to shoot. It's like a hot .45.

It's not actually a Mattle toy. Our fellow poster butchered the term "poodle shooter" which was used by American GI's during the Vietnam war to address their; which where also called "Mattle toys", the same company that makes Barbies.

In any event, I apologize for the picture, I was under the impression that the forum would do the resizing like many others I frequent. After all, I am a noob.

I did not imply that the 10mm (or any other popular round) is terrible. As I hinted, I love shooting .45s myself. However, once you shoot one of these it is impossible not be impressed by their minimal recoil, top notch accuracy and stopping power. These are possibly one of the best armor piercing rounds out there at a distance. Makes a nice loud noise, kinda like a .357 magnum, but it kicks like a .22 or .25. Very controllable, and very accurate with a steady finger out to distances where the 9mm and the .45acp would just be digging in the dirt.

Where did you find a box for $27.49? That's a decent rate.

If you like the SS197 you should try some SS195, has higher muzzle velocity and some people report better accuracy.

I don't have a background in ballistics but if you really want to compare the 5.7x28mm with 10mm, someone should post stats on velocity, kinetic energy, and penetration in ballistic gel. Recoil from the 5.7x28 round is generally low but there are some hot factory loads that kick more than 9mm. But these loads come out of a FiveseveN pistol at over 2200 fps and over 2900fps out of a 16" barreled PS90. :)

The grossly oversized pic from the OP has been removed.

If you want to repost a pic of your ammo/box please keep it to 800x600 pixels max.

Thanks.

You aren't seriously thinking the 5.7 is anywhere near 10mm in almost all of those criteria are you? The 5.7 has the edge in velocity otherwise the 10mm is miles ahead in the others. They are two very different cartridges.

+1. 5.56x45 is not known as a real stopper even out of an M4 and that is much hotter than 5.7 out of a handgun. To stop your target takes a big, heavy slug, not a tiny lightweight bullet at high velocity. The only place that 5.7 would have an edge over 10mm would be in armour penetration.

5.7 = 40gr @ 2200fps = 429ft-lb
10mm = 180gr @ 1250fps = 624ft-lb
10mm = 200gr @ 1150fps = 587ft-lb

Both 10mm loads from my Hornady manual. I would much rather be carrying either of the above 10mm loads than a 5.7 pop gun.

If I had to make something stop doing what it was doing, right fast like.. 10mm with well pretty much any bullet that fits would work. If i had a carbine and could accurately hit and puncture light armour at one or two hundred meters... I see where the little guy fits in.

Low recoil like that, they should up the rounds per minute from 900 to like 1200-1500 and make 100 round magazines. that would be some scary #### to fight against. Like a swarm of angry bees :)

not ragging on it now.. it looks like a very good weapon system and cartridge and everyone loves a pistol and carbine with the same ammo, they figured that our over a hundred years ago.

My 180s run closer to 1400fps. Straight out of the Speer manual. I have read 200's can run safely at 1250 but I have never been able to get past about 1175 without pushing too hard. I am not a fan of abusing my cases or guns to get that little bit of extra speed.

I like the 5.7 and 4.6 mm cartridges. To call them the best of anything is a stretch though. Even the .224 BOZ (derived from 10mm Auto) could be considered the best in the PDW category. It's all so arguable.

I believe that, I just pulled the first loads that were handy for reference purposes.
