How big is this guy?

That is a very big moose.

You should caution her that 8-10 meters from an animal that size IMHO is too close without a firearm. Moose can be unpredictable in the fall.

LOL I have been trying to caution her about things for years. To no avail. This young lady has more "balls" than most men I know. She said when she first saw him she kneeled down in the tall grass and got her Camera out. She doesn't think he even saw her.

I dunno, there's a fine line between brave and stupid, if she had been trampled her bravery would probably not be what everyone would be talking about.
But still, that big boy looks damn tasty.

I don't know about that. Would it have been better if she turned and ran? He would have seen her for sure then. She is not unfamiliar with the wild and is anything but "stupid".

My Daughter sent me this picture of a Moose that passed in front of her as she was hiking through the Cape Breton High Lands last week said it was no more than 8-10 meters away. Anyone able to estimate weight and size?

Very nice moose, especially for the Maritimes.

Estimate weight and size? I'd say 1200 lbs. and score maybe in the 170's, hard to tell without a frontal shot of antlers.

Sorry no frontal shots. That's probably a good thing.

Here's another pic. Keep in mind she is using just a cheap digital camera with no zoom feature.

I would guess about 550 dressed. FWIW he is an old bull (probably 12 or 14 years old). I have a bull tag for are 36 in Newfoundland and I would leave him. The meat would be too tough.

I don't think he is that old. His coat still has a very high gloss to it.

I think the gloss has to do with the time of year it is/what their diet is. I think he is that old because he is a little wiry around the front of his back quarters. However he is still a beautiful bull (however, I wouldn't want to lug his quarters out on my back lol!)

my guesstimates:
50-52" wide
175-185 B&C
1300 lbs live (bear in mind ive never actually weighed a moose)

Impressive tine length (which sadly doesn't help your score), good paddle length, pretty even. Not the greatest brow palms/fronts whatever you call them, not the best width of paddles ive ever seen, not bad/not awesome number of points (i count 11ish per side).

yeah, id shoot it in half a heartbeat.

ps good job by your daughter. I'd have done the same thing except i would've wet myself repeatedly afterwards.
