My first 9mm.

Of the 2 I'd get the Glock 17 gen4; for the part availability, ease of maintenance (read not much maintenance needed) and price. I strongly suggest you handle them before buying. It has to Fit :)

For best price, check out Vinzer sport or Sporteque.

reloads in a G17 are fine. I heard there was a problem with lead build up at the feed ramp that may stop the gun from locking up before firing. If you reload with TMJ's and keep it clean you should be good to go. Thousands of reloads through mine without a problem.

Exactly. Shooting lead through a Glock is bad, read dangerous, because the polygonal rifling design used in their barrel will become heavily leaded in no time and may cause barrel obstruction.

If you want to shoot lead, there are aftermarket barrels available from Lone Wolf or IGB with standard rifling.

Im hearing that the new Gen 4 cause a lot of malfunctions, but mostly due to the new double recoil spring needing to be broken in. My suggestion is go Glock 17 Gen 3. Thing can eat mud and keep putting 9 down range. That said havent really had alot of time with the SR9

Whatever feels better in your hand and points more naturally. Glocks don't have suppored chambers, I had a 17 wuold never buy another have an SR9 and several sigs. Nothing wrong with the SR9 if you like it buy it. If you don't like it and want to upgrade sell it they are easy to sell. women like them as they have small grips. niether is a bad gun, neither has real down falls, both are fine guns I just like the ruger better, can fire it better and ours has been extremely accurate out of the box, significantly more accurate than all 11 glocks I have shot.

All I am getting at it that I prefer lands and grooves over polygonal rifling because I feel more comfortable using traditional rifling to shoot lead reloads.

This was the deciding factor in helping me choose an M & P over a Glock.

Just a consideration.

I want a sports car... then you guys tell me to buy a Porshe right away instead of all the 350Z, Mustangs and other reasonably priced fun cars.

Definately buy the Porsche. I am on my 2nd 911 in 11 years and that is as much fun as you can have with your pants on. Much more fun than the Glock or Ruger!!!

:D By the way, get the SIG P226...:D

Awol, that 996 is a beaut, hat the tt and wiped it out, that hurt!!!

Glock says don't shoot reloads + I can't afford new ammo all the time = no Glocks for me.

M & P is okay with reloads. I am not sure about the SR9.

I think you're confused with lead bullets, they gum up the polygonal rifling, or something like that..

As for the weight/recoil issue someone mentioned above, you can always slap a heavy light or laser on the weaver rail to damnped the snap a bit.

I shoot reloaded lead in my GL 17, never a problem, just clean the barrel well after use that all to prevent build up

My first pistol back in the early 90s was a Ruger P85. Was a nice pistol and I couldn't spend the extra few hundred dollars to go with what I wanted, a Glock 17. Year later I sold the Ruger and bought a Glock 17. Haven't shot anything since. I like the ergonomics of Glock, Ruger is a personal thing. They are good guns for the price, but I like other designs.

After reading a bazillion topics, watching a ton of videos and having a few guns in my hands while shopping...

I'm still thorn between a Glock 17 and a M&P 9mm.

The big positive of the M&P is that it's fully ambidextrous. This ia huge plus. It's also supposed to be on it's way to be as good as a Glock regarding reliability according to those who shoot alot in the US.

The big positive about the Glock is... well it's a Glock. Reliable as hell.

I'm moving in my new place in a couple weeks, once that's out of the way, i'll be ordering. So I dont have to deal with moving my restricted that I will most likely have not received yet... But Murphys law says they will since i'll have to. :D

I still say get the SIG P226 (Porsche of the handgun world)...:D

Personally I'd go for the Glock I just love them :)
Although that is biased and I still haven't ever even held an SR-9.

I don't know if you are one of those nutnfancy haters or not, but he has been having trouble with his that he has been reviewing...
