What groups might a Rem 760 achieve?

First of all let me begin by saying that I am entirely pleased with the way my 760 is shooting.

Its a .308, 19" barrel under a Bushnell 3200 1.5-4.5X scope. With factory ammo (180 gr. PSP Core-Lokt), scope at 4.5X, shooting off a pair of sandbags and my untrained shooting skills, my last two 3-shot groups were 2 3/8'" and 2 1/2" at 100 yards. Not as tight as my Win Model 70 but more than adequate for killing north woods whitetails.

I was impressed that a pump action could shoot like this and that got me wondering; with handloaded ammo, from a proper bench and perhaps some instruction on shooting technique, what sort of groups might I be able to squeeze out of this rig?

I have a 7600 in 25-06, and another in 260 Rem that I have grouping right around an inch(+/-) @ a 100.

I am currently working on a load for another I have in 7mm-08. It seems to be a bit more bully than the other two grouping @ a bit over 2'' at best. I'm not in a panic as of yet because I have only tried two different bullets.

Run of the mill Rem pumps shoot like run of the mill bolt guns. Being free floated by design, you can argue that they might more stable than a pressure bedded beaver food stock.

My 7600 308, with handloads and just bumping back the shoulder on the brass. 1" @ 100 for 5 shots.
My 7600 243, neck sized for fun and single fed, 0.75" @ 100 for 5 shots pretty regularly.

All this is off a bench with a proper rest fore and aft. I suggest you full length resize for hunting. I was just farting around with neck sizing.

Theres a guy at the range shoots his iron sited 30-06 760 better than the above.

EDIT. The 7600 barrels are very accurate IMHO. The thing about a pump gun is you can't accurize by bedding like you can a bolt rifle. And You have to keep breaking your rest position to chamber another round. In order for me to get my best groups I really have to concentrate on repositioning myself and the rifle in the same way each time. Its far easier with a bolt.

I had my 760 308 carbine out yesterday. It sports a cheap 4X tasco scope.
Shooting old dominion factory KKSP's 180 gr. it managed 1 1/4 - 2" groups no problem. Probably the worst trigger on any rifle I have. It never ceases to amaze me!!

For the most part turn bolts are the only guns that accomodate neck sized only rounds which is where 80% of the accuracy comes from. A good pump may equal the worlds worst bolt at best

80%? So if I have a bolt gun that shoots 1 MOA with full length sized brass I would get .2 MOA if I just neck sized?

So what kind of accuracy have you gotten with Model 760's?

Fist off, repeating slug guns have dismal accuracy......NOW THIS.

Someone needs a dunce hat.

Sorry, but 760's shoot better than many bolts I've tried. I have to say that you don't know what you're talking about.
