...It was a gift from a client. Not fired since... Really slick features like the peep site and trap door floor plate.

Beautiful rifles. Just make sure of the bore size. 8mm's were originally .318 bore(8mm J) then became .323 bore(8mm S or JS). Pressures can go pretty high shoving a .323 dia. bullet down a .318 bore as all modern ammo in 8x57 is loaded with .323 dia. bullets.
8X56 MS is not 8X57 Mauser.
Dudley you have a very rare factory flip up wrist peep! The trigger is the single wich is liked less by us who hunt with MS's. The stock is very worn and needs a complete refinish as well as recheckering, bluing is faded but still not bad. I see it has a rifle length barrel instead of a carbine wich is less desirable, looks to have original sights wich is a huge plus as they are hard to find here in canada! The bores on these MS's are reverse tapered and give outstanding accurracy years later, I would keep it and hunt evry chance you can with it! These are the smoothest guns ever made! If you want you can replace the single trigger with a double no alteration to the gun as long as you can find a good used double set rigger group. cheers dale in T-Bay

They are great rifles but the ammo is very difficult to find. You will need to reload. I've had two, both carbines, including one that was mint. I really shouldn't have sold it.
