Shortest non-restricted rifle/carbine?

Shortest non-restricted long gun can not have a shorter overall length than 26"...

I set up a 16.5" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 22LR = 26 3/8" for my little guy...

I also have a 14" T/C Contender carbine barrel in 45 Colt with the stock that fits me on it's overall length is 29 1/2" and I can legally shorten the stock so the rifle is 26" I'd go to 26 3/8" again though to deal with an enforcement officers tape measure...

Almost like Camp Cook's
- pic taken just last Saturday shooting my 45-70 Encore with 15" barrel and a peep sight - 29 1/8" OAL. Trap door loads were pussycat recoil. Ear protection HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Soon I'm going to swap out that barrel back to a 50cal muzzleloader 20" tube - to hunt a special "muzzleloader only" season for deer here. Incidentally, the 15" 45-70 barrel is registered with the CFC as the rifle's primary barrel.

My 45-70 barrel is 22" long I was just at the range shooting it with my favorite Hornady 325gr FTX with 54grs H322 this last Friday when I tried some of my 425gr WLNGC's with 48gr H322 I have one of the new Redfield 2-7X scopes mounted on it...

I forgot how much more these recoil in this little rifle so I pulled it in nice and tight to my shoulder but put my head closer than I should have... yes I am now wearing a nice little paper cut up near the middle of my forehead...

The more I look at those Encores/Prohunters the more I want one in stainless steel with a 21" - 22" barrel chambered in 375H&H I would load it with 260gr Accubonds @ 2600 - 2650fps...

:D

A couple years ago I saw a stainless steel synthetic stocked Encore with a very short 460 S&W barrel on it I almost bought it but ended up buying a 50th Anniversary Rem 700 LSS in 280 instead...

There is a company here in sweden that is marketing .444 Marlin double guns over/under. I would love to have one of those. If you cut the barrels (they're not long to begin with but I suppose you want something really compact) you have yourself a handy gun. Since they don't have a bolt the action is a lot shorter than the lever gun mechanism.
