to loud for hunting
Too loud for hunting? that doesnt make one bit of sense....I would love to hear your theory on that.
It makes a lot of sense. Try sitting next to a guy in a Duck blind who's shooting ported barrels. They are not bad at the range when everyone is wearing ear plugs. But in a Duck blind.....
I have shot a lot of ported shotguns and the only one that seemed to make a difference was a Perazzi O/U done by Tom Seitz. This one had much less muzzle jump than any of the others I have used. Didn't seem to have any noticeable affect on recoil though.
So a ported barrel is not a good thing. How can I get the said gun (post #6) with a non ported barrel without buying a second barrel.
why are you not using earplugs when duck hunting?
I like to hear the quacks.![]()

Ported gun = guide killer. Stupid loud for anyone standing on either side of the barrel. It won't endear you to your friends or guide at all.
If the ports are just on the top of the barrel, it MAY help with muzzle jump, but I didn't notice much difference between the ported/regular recoil.
I have no idea who told you that but whoever did had no idea what they were talking about.Porting is to release the gasses instead of blowing the gasses through your shot, which can make your patterns inconsistent. However porting for this reason is not usually really needed unless your shooting 3.5" shells with shot.
