What do you SKS guys figure the approximate value of a North Korean SKS would be?

It's basically not much more than a barreled action with matching bolt. Gas piston and upper handguard are missing, as is the magazine assembly and the front sight. Condition is about 50%, with some pitting on some metal surfaces.
 
I don't know about 'parts value' - North Korean SKS's are probably the rarest - I've never met anyone who has seen one. It's definitely worth something more than parts to someone who has every other type of SKS, and it is likely to be the only type such a collector does not have.

No pics available, and I didn't pay for it. Just wondering about price. And I know this thing is worth more than "parts price", since I've never seen or heard of another one in Canada.
 
How can it be worth anything more than parts prices? What good is it if it isn't complete? Its basically a skeleton. I'll give ya 20 bucks for it.:p
 
Well, I'd say it's worth more due to rarity. It certainly won't be worth anything near what a complete rifle will be, but it's definitely worth more than a Russian or Chinese rifle in comparable condition.

I also wondered if CUBA was ever set up to manufacture sks. Or did they use russian?

Sorry for the thread jack but seeing as it would also be a rare one would be cool to know.
 
I've been cogitating this question since it was posted earlier today. If there was more of a SKS Collectors Community like in the US,it would have some value even in the present state. Up here though,it would be an oddity,a not all there oddity,but one all the same. Might be worth something if it had bringback papers from Nam. Would I buy it as is? Might bite for $150-200 just to have an oddity,but nothing more.

Actually I have been told by a mechanic friend that visits Cuba from time to time with a box load of car parts, they make some pretty interesting stuff in their garages as car parts are hard to come by.

As for building SKS's, I have never heard of them doing so.

Cuba became communist in '59 so they used what they already had and then went straight to the AK. They did receive some FN FALs that had been ordered by the previous administration but that didn't turn out so well...

I think it's not worth anymore than a russian or chinese barreled action. For it to be anymore than a paperweight, you need to mix match parts. Not cool.
