Just a reminder to be safe this season while enjoying the sport we love. Not sure of the details but this is the release from RCMP. When I get more, I'll pass them along.

RCMP in Indian Head were dispatched to a complaint of a 32 year old male hunter from Montmarte, Saskatchewan being accidentally shot by another hunter who is a 46 year old male from Regina, Saskatchewan. The incident occurred between Odessa and Kennedy in Saskatchewan.

The 32 year old male was immediately rushed to a hospital in Regina. The gunshot wound was non-fatal and the 32 year old male is expected to recover.

The matter is still being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit in Regina.


First day of white tail rifle season too.

Unfortunately there are people out in the bush that wouldn't have a chance of passing a hunter safety course anymore.

I'm sorry for your dog, I would have taken that very poorly and I hope the hunter gets well soon too. If it's an accident, it's an accident, if it's negligence, publicly cane the a**hole a hundred times.
 
I have no first hand knowledge on this shooting but from what I hear it happened when one group of hunters were pushing a bush for deer and a "road hunter" shot one of the pushers because he thought it was a buck. There was heavy for that day but why would you be shooting at something that you were not 100% sure of your target.

Why shoot if you have no clue what you are shooting at--idiots (there is no shortage of them anywhere).
 
Sask hunting regulations for hunting or accompanying a hunter in a rifle season say you must wear:

"...an outer suit from the waist up of scarlet, bright yellow, blaze orange or white or any combination of these colours. Headwear must be any one of these colours except white. Coloured vests ... are not acceptable."

I was out for mule deer on Sunday and will go out again this afternoon. I never mind missing the first day or last day of whitetail season as I expect they are the the most likely days for people to take dangerously silly chances with my safety.

You need a Blaze Orange, Red, or White coat (vests are not good enough) and a blaze orange hat/toque. Also those white or orange coats with the branches/ leaf patterns on them are not acceptable(from the local fish cop).

Given the regs something fishy happened or the bullet passed through brush thick enough the bright clothing of the hunter could not be seen. Have to wait for more info.

Never been a fan of pushing bush...aside from the lameness of it I think it is also the most likely scenario for an accident...
 
Here's the latest....


RCMP in Indian Head continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding yesterdays report of a hunter being accidentally shot by another hunter 15 kilometers southeast of the community of Montmarte, SK.

Yesterday at 3:15 p.m. RCMP received a 911 call from an individual who was reporting that one hunter had been shot and he required medical attention. EMS was dispatched to the scene but stopped on Highway 48 between Odessa and Kendal where the hunting party had congregated. A 32 year old male was transported to Regina Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained.

One hunting party was shooting at deer when one of the rounds struck the victim, who was with another hunting party, from a distance of approximately 200 meters. Investigators have taken several witness statements as part of this investigation and have also seized a rifle.

The RCMP Forensic Identification Section as well as Police Dog Services out of Regina are on scene today in support of the investigation. To date, no charges have been laid.

The police report seems to support the rumours.
 
Condolences on your children's pet. That's terrible.

Not everyone that lives in the city should be painted with the same brush. I grew up in small towns, but now live in the city for work. I spend a lot of time year round in the bush. I know lots of rural folk who can't read a compass, and are trigger happy a$$hats. Dumb people come from all over, and not all city-dwellers are terrible people.

I am really sorry for your children's pet. I have a 3 yr old, and 4 yr old and a 6 yr old. I can imagine the heart-break you must feel for their sorrow.
