Removing a magaznie safety?

What's the big deal with removing the mag disconnect anyway? Aside from having to insert an empty mag to drop the hammer after a shoot, what does it accomplish?

Who is shooting without a mag and one in the chamber anyway?

My reason is exactly what you frst mentioned. I don't want to have to insert a mag every time I her ICHDH

If it really bothers you there are three alternatives:
1) Buy a Pro model. They come without the mag 'disconnect'
2)Buy a Julie G. model - same reason
3) Buy a different gun without this infernal device

I love my M&P9 but I hate that particular "safety device". I'm looking into replacing it with a different trigger group. If you look at how it operates (with the slide off), it's a really flimsy system that looks like it's prone to breaking.

Seems like just another things that could go wrong when you really don't want it to.

Respectfully, that is not a good enough arguement for someone who quite possibly has only one firearm to compete with. To suggest that one sells his or her firearm at a loss (invariably) only to turn around and buy essentially the same firearm so they are 'legal' in the eyes of the ruling....well, that is a failure of judgement from those charged with making the ruling in the first place.

I find it odd that we go to great lengths to get new shooters in our sport - be it spending our personal time to encourage them, setting up and running matches, and even relaxing rules for clubs to get involved....yet this very simple and easy 'call' (imho) seems to escape us.

I would petition to have those who are charged with these decisions to continually re-evaluate their position...;)

I have asked about this decision and discussed it at great length with HQ. I am afraid, due to legal issues the rule stands. Unfortunately in this instance I cannot get a Canadian Exemption for this rule either, I tried.

Frankly, I don't see what the issue is in any event. The mag disconnect on the M&P does not effect trigger function.

The only time it comes into play is when you must unload and show clear. Once the slide is down insert a mag ( loaded or not), or as some have done make a stick to fit the mag tunnel and drop the striker. Remove the mag and holster the weapon.

Take Care

lol....I am with you 100% :)

Unfortunately I have fought this fight and ended up with my tail between my legs....well not really but you know what I mean.

HQ has ruled and we are stuck with it.

This is the reason for my earlier post....with the rule as it stands these are the options as I understand them :)

I'm new to pistols and have not fired a round in competition, but I am taking the IDPA new shooter orientation on the 27th. I have an M&P, and what I have done is found a short piece of plastic tube about the diameter of my index finger. I can place it in the mag well, and insert my finger between it and the front wall of the mag well, which depresses the mag disconnect lever enabling me to drop the hammer. I figured if I found something small and light that fits comfortably in my pocket, I could use it instead of a mag so that no RO's need to feel uncomfortable by watching me pull the trigger with a mag inserted.

Perfect!

I sense a marketing opportunity.

An aftermarket tool with the express purpose of defeating a unwanted solution to a non-existent problem.

The mag disconnect is not a safety feature. It doesn't act as one within the confines of our sports, so it's function is moot.

Coming up with a tool to work around our inability to make a proper ruling on this item is slightly...:HR:
