I bought a KKW trainer off of EE and it got here yesterday. It was still in the packing grease and claimed to have been never fired, which seemed to be accurate as there was not a spot of powder residue to be found, anyways. Took my new-to-me JW25 out to the range today to break it in and couldn't be happier.

I really like the sights on this rifle, but not sure if the elevation is correct. I kept pushing it forward and there seemed to be no change in POI? The piece that the elevation adjustment slides along has a very slight incline, which is probably why the adjustments were so fine. they adjust from 25 to 200m in 25m increments, so i might just be used to the larger increments such as the nagants where they can go up to 2000m and are pretty much vertical.

I put about 150 rounds of Blazer 40gr. I was seated behind the bench, and had the rifle resting on it. I was pretty impressed with the whole system, shot decent groups. mind you I went to an indoor range that's only 25yds, but still.

I had some trouble with the magazine, the second round wouldn't always feed properly as the mag wouldn't push it up far enough for the bolt to catch it, or the nose of the bullet would get pushed down into the magazine, but it usually worked itself out with a little finger poke.
You can see in this photo the cartridge is a little too far down inside the magazine.

This one shows how it should be.

I just wanted to share my newest rimfire with the crowd, and show what it can do. I am obviously not the best shot in the world but i think its pretty good, especially for the money. Great budget rifle, and highly recommend picking one up if you can find one.

Cool gun now I want one
Bummer 'bout the mag, but if it doesn't bother you too much, maybe it just needs a thorough cleaning
Looks like you could get a CZ452 mag if you cant find a new Norinco one.

Thanks for the review!

no worries, i was actually considering the CZ mags, but they are more expensive than the norinco ones. i'll live with what i got for now, at least until someone brings some mags in. :p
Edit: it also came with a 10rnd mag that works fine, i guess its just the itty-bitty 5 rounder. and it shouldn't need cleaning as its new? but i will probably cleaner out anyways..

I love mine, Had it for 2 years. I put 1 to 4power scope on it and made it look like a German Sniper.
I shoot a grouse through the head with it at 80m. It is a good gun and looks cool

When I bought my from Marstar I ordered an extra mag for it. The original works fine but the extra was garbage.

i too was contemplating a scope, did you find one of the side mounts or did u use really high rings?

I too had a JW-25a and put a scope on it. Yes, I had to use high rings, but you get used to it. The accuracy varied from outing to outing but was all around very good. It accounted for its fair share of gophers!! Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed mine.
Cheers!!

There was a proprietary norinco scope for it that looked like it mounted on the left side (despite the 3/8" grooves on top). For regular mounting, not only did I need the highest rings I could find, but I had to mount them on top of an improvised rail mount (not intended for the gun) that fit on the 3/8" groove.

All this trouble so the scope would clear the bolt when the rifle was cycled/reloaded. Not pretty, but it works.

I like these little rifles. A fun way to enjoy a great rifle without breaking the bank or your shoulder. I bet accuracy will improve as it breaks in, as murat said they are good shooters. Thanks for the review

We gotta get PanzerIV on here because he brought along this Norc JW on a gopher hunt (he hosted me) and his Norc JW had a Leupold Rimfire .22 scope on top that was knocking off gophers like mad. :D

I'm a CZ452 Style (synthetic stock dude) kinda guy so the JW25 is extra weight to carry around. We sure knocked off our share of gophers that afternoon.

I do have to agree with all of you that the K98 copy in .22 LR is very cool! ;) Currently Marstar.ca is out of them until Dec 2010: http://www.marstar.ca/gf-norinco/22-JW-25A.shtm

It would be helpful if any of you JW25A owners have been successful mounting optics with certain ring manufacturers/brands to post your experiences. I might be close behind you!

Cheers,
Barney

No pics of the scope mounted, but here's the blocks it sits on.

JW-25-2.jpg

BKL-166 riser blocks on the rifle and -257 rings on the scope. Both from BKL Tech of course.

Scope sits high, but it's clear of the bolt handle.
If I remember, I'll get a pic with the scope mounted.

(E)

I tried using "high" rings with no success. so i'm also going to try using the BKL166 risers. just put in my order, more to follow...

here is what worked for me goto whole sale sports and get $7 tasco .22/airgun high sight. with this you will be able to use both iron and scope thanks

I put medium rings on mine got the cheap from ebay under $7 with shipping from China. They work well plus the gun looks cool

If it is a norinco product it will need cleaning and a light lubrication. Silcon spray may tune it up..

I have found my JW25A will shoot subsonic target ammo (T22) far more accurately than standard velocity. No idea why.

That is the first setup. I also used a M98 rear sight with a flat rail and mounted a red dot in place of the rear sight. A m98 rear sight will fit in the JW25 rear sight mount. I haven't shot this set up yet.
