Bought my son his first gun... CZ

If going for the fact it has sights, I would suggest the 452FS.
All of my rifles have scopes so I started my grandson with what I had.
My thoughts on a rifle he will keep and cherish forever is the American but that is just an opinion.

For starters, what a cool Dad you are for buying your son a rifle:)

However, while I love CZ's, I'm not thrilled about the changes they've made with the 455.:(

The CZ 452 Lux has got incredible open sights and dominates shooting matches in the States where all the rifles are restricted to factory iron sights. Yes, it even beats the Anschutz rifles it competes against.

Besides putting on a cheaper iron sight, CZ also removed the front locking lugs on the 455 and have a one-size-fits-all mag well now.

It is a huge mistake in my opinion. If you've ever used the sights on a 452 Lux you'll appreciate being able to easily slide the ladder sights to the corresponding range you are shooting at.

Dad of the year! Haha, where can you get the CZ youth, I love the small sized .22s, and I hear good things about CZ iron sites.

I think any place that sells CZ can get the youth model. I considered it last year but waited because:
1) He (kids) will out grow it quickly and it becomes a paper weight.
2) I want to play CZ too :D

My boy is pretty big now (sort of) and he will be able to handle it but a year ago he needed the bench rest for my 10/22. He will need to grow into the CZ a bit but he can shoot it until he's as old as I am... even older.

I bolt action is the way to go it will teach him to put bullet in the right spot and very nice gun I am going to look at one for my 11 year old soon.

Your son is one lucky bugger! I am sure he will be as excited as any of us when we got our first firearm. He's got one up on me, cause he didnt have to buy it himself :)

You're a good Dad AWOL. I like your choice, very classy. When he opens it, and shoots it for the first time watch the smile on his face:D, that will be your gift. Happy B-day to your boy.

peace...

It won't be long and you will be buying one for yourself as your son will be outshooting you with that rifle. Nice choice, nice gift, and thanks for sharing.

, another vote for the yodave trigger kit. $15 and it revoloutionizes the gun.

Great choice, your kid is going to love that gun! I just bought myself my first .22lr(at 32 years old, why did I wait so long to get in to shooting????), and I went with the 16" barreled 452 American, it is great. The Lux is the next .22 I want to buy, for the exact reasons you bought it for your son. I've heard really great things about those iron sights on it, nice work Dad!

This has got me thinking that maybe I should call Clay at Prophet River and see if he can get me one in for Christmas. Make sure you get a photo of your sons face as he opens his present and realizes what you got him, bet his facial expression will be priceless.

I started my 8 yr old grandson last night. He had a big assed smile all evening, I was afraid his mother was going to give me hell for permanently disfiguring her son. LOL

He did not do too well with pistol & revolver, however he really impressed me with the lever action .22 topped with a scope. I think we have a new convert.

Great choice, I am considering a CZ for my nephew.

For sights, you might also consider a peep sight.

When I was young, I was given a Marlin 39a, fitted with a peep sight. After a number of years, I got itchy for a scope and put one on.

Now, older an wiser, it is again wearing that peep sight. It is a hunting/plinking rifle, not a benched target gun. Peep sights are amazingly accurate and don't add bulk/weight to the rifle.

Part of this is because my kids began shooting competitively offhand, and I rediscovered what can be done with open sights.

Great story! Your son will be on top of the world. My Dad bought me a Model 39 one day, on our way out of town to hunt some Prairie Chickens. That particular little rifle was stolen some years later, but the effect it had on me is still quite evident. I am nearly 63 now and can still conjure up that lovely smell of the old Super Clean and Whiz Bang shells when you fired them.

The CZ looks like a very nice rifle. I can guarantee your son won't be out spray painting railway cars and smashing people's property. He'll be at home cleaning his beautiful little CZ!!:)

So here it is, my son's birthday... He's holding his birthday present for the camera. The wife & her mother were less than impressed but my father-in-law thought it was great.

Happy Birthday to him.
How many bricks did you include in the birthday pack?
What's he getting for Christmas?

And speaking of which, Happy Christmas to all.

Happy Birthday to him.

What's he getting for Christmas?

Among a myriad of other things... 10 days in Mexico, tickets to all the games for the World Juniors Hockey Series at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, 1 week of skiing in Whistler, 3 french wh@res & a partridge in a pear tree...

:D

nice! can't go wrong with a CZ :) I wish my dad would have bought me a rifle when I was 12 :p can't think of a better gift!

That's what I thought too and so I decided to be different. My parents were/are highly intellectual anti's. They wouldn't let me have a BB gun when I was young. I really enjoyed giving it to him as he has a strong interest in shooting sports. It gives us something we can do together for the rest of my life. We don't share golf clubs so why not have his own gun? I will want him to let me shoot it though :D
