Please explain the CZ in 5.56

The ability to use 10 round AR pistol magazines will be another mark in favour of the 5.56 version.

Also when the mag adapters come out 10 rounds will be legal with the LAR mags!

I sure would like to see this adapter become available... But, I'm skeptical on just "when"... Anyone have any info on the timeline???

Cheers
Jay

It may not be to use as a battle rifle, but a serious interest in them. Otherwise we would only have single shot .22's. I love mine over the SKS simply because its a faster and more accurate platform. I enjoy high speed shooting under pressure for accuracy, even though I will never need to use it to defend myself. I cant imagine how haggard those 10 rd. ar mags are going to look sticking out of a red rifle...

I think its pretty hilarious you only consider the battle effectiveness considering no one in canada will ever be in a fire fight with one!

As far as price is concerned it is all about corrosive vs. Non corrosive ammo! Cleaning is a must in southern Ontario or Coastal climates due to humidity and I hate worrying about corrosion!

Never say never.

Here's a why I personally see a niche for it. Here in NB, if you have a firearm with you in a "resort of wildlife", you need a valid hunting licence. This means if you wish to even go plinking in a field or target shooting in a gravel pit, in the eyes of the law, you are hunting, and therefore to cover your @$$, you'd damn well better have a hunting licence. Outside of deer, moose and bear seasons, you can only hunt varmints with a rifle of .23 cal. or less or a shotgun with shot no larger than BB size. So this means that your larger bore rifles are essentially considered restricted for most of the year. Add to that the problem of transportation permits that has arisen in the last little while that we've been discussing in the political forums, and you'll find that I have a hell of a lot more freedom with a .223/5.56 cal. rifle than a 7.62X39 rifle in this province. Now I'm just hoping some of us hear back from the new Minister of Natural Resources here so we can get the ball started rolling on some changes.

Its more about the "feel" of the ammunition when it fires to the individual than anything else. In terms of a firefight...
hell...I'd rather not be shot with eitherXD

I bought one because I can't shoot 7.62x39 surplus indoors where I do most of my winter shooting (indoor range fires are bad, esp since the ventilation system costs upwards of 100k).

I wanted a non restricted semi.
I kinda wanted a red rifle.
Less expensive to shoot than a M305.

It also makes a good "less than deer" rifle since 308 and 303 are a little much for the pests we have here.

Many Eastern Bloc nations quickly offered up 5.56 versions of 7.62x39 guns, in order to compete for NATO contracts, as well as comply (in one form or another) to some of the requirements for membership. Some other examples were the Polish Tantal's and any number of Zastava products.

Bzzzzzzt wrong. 5.56 pwns 7.62x39. Mainly noobs use 7.62x39 which sucks past 50 meters lol

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Turn on your internet connection and or get out to the range.

There isn't enough time in the day for me to cut and paste ballistics charts and round reviews to respond to this post.

I'll post one for you. Coles notes version says the 7.62x39 blows, but no moreso than 55 or 62gr fmj in a 5.56. Fortunately for the AR, they are far more accurate than the VZ.

I have no dog in this fight however, as the paper I shoot doesn't discriminate.
I have a CZ58 - it's a great little carbine just the way it is. No need to convert them to 5.56 imho.

Wow the eternal 7.62x39 vs. 5.56 debate rages on.
I think I'd take 123gr SPs for deer over 55gr Varmint bullets any day of the week.
But with different ammo choices who knows?
If your stuck with ball 5.56 will definitely do more damage till it reaches it's fragmentation threshold around 200m.
7.62 is definitely more powerful anyway. But it kicks more and doesn't shoot as flat.

Also my CZ VZ was only 700$ and they gave me pretty good break on a case of ammo

p.s that Ar15.co m link is pure wound ballistics gold.

yep both 5.56x45 and 7.62x39 suck really when you compare them with some of the newer offerings

Now I think its a shame that Czech stopped producing firearms (VZ 52) and ammo in 7.62x45 to be compatable with all the other eastern block countries and use 7.62x39

If we had a good steady source of 7.62x45 ammo think of some of the wildcat options that we could be using. And the 7.62x45 would be one hell of a deer round. Oh and its OAL is only 2.6mm longer then 5.56x45 ;) might fit in the AR platform

isn't the u.s. military quietly changing over to 6.8spc? check what they are using in the theater and I think most here would most assuradly be surprised. both rounds have had their day it just takes time to change the world over, that's all.

Neck the 7.62x45 down to 7mm and you would have perfection if somebody were to make a rifle sized for it. It doesn't quite make it into fitting the AR15/M16 platform.

Notwithstanding logistics, 6.8 SPC is the best overall performer given the limitations of existing 5.56mm platforms.

Given the types of ammo most commonly shot by recreational shooters through 5.56 and 7.62x39 rifles, any discussion of terminal ballistics is academic.

Another thing that warrants mentioning is that if you want to take advantage of the potential of the 7.62x39, you will have to find reloadable brass, which isn't as cheap/easy as .223.
