So my buddy and I were at the range the other day. We have always been curious about the polymer pistols and the "limp wristing" and how much it actually effects the firearm....... so we decided to try!!!

We would only put one round in the magazine each time when trying this. Anyway long story short we fired about 10 times total limp wristing the Glock17. To our surprise, it jammed/FTE every single time, it didn't cycle properly once! We also had an M&P9 with us and tried limp wristing it about 10 times as well, it was jamming/FTE too!!

We were quite surprised that we could get the guns to jam that much. We thought maybe we would have had to "try harder" so to speak. It took little more than a light grip/limp wrist to cause the firearm to malfunction.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking either firearm, that's not the point here at all, I think do they are both super awesome and would recommend to anyone! We were just quite surprised at how big of an effect the limp wrist thing actually does have on the polymer framed pistol. Actually I think for a second there we were more surprised and having more fun jamming the ole Glock17 than we were trying to shoot a decent group!! And it's not that we doubted it before but it was interesting to see first hand how a "limp wristed" shooter could definitely have issues with a polymer pistol.

So Hang on tight!!!!

why would these results surprise you... the guns are recoil operated, if there is nothing to allow the recoil to fully cycle then the gun is going to jam..... frankly the same thing happens to benelli shotguns too.

It should'nt be a shocker, and metal or poly frame makes no difference either, its the nature of the action. As stated by Pepsicola, the Glock is completely recoil operated, so if all the recoil is absorbed by a limp wrist, or other mechanism, it won't cycle completely.

Recoil-operated firearms need to hold the frame/receiver relatively fixed to operate properly. Not surprising that it jammed, I'm sure much to the chagrin of those with rubber wrists.

My G17 gen 4 had a few FTFs when it was new and my gf was shooting it. Never a FTE though. Now that it is worked in with a few hundred rounds, can't get it to malfunction anymore.

I think we were more surprised at the ease at which we could make the guns jam, not the concept that it was actually happening. Before i was under the assumption that one would have to majorly limp wrist to cause a malfunction but as i said now I can totally see how people would have problems if they don't keep a firm grip.... It was actually a pretty good learning experience to see it first hand

yeah i remember your posts. Good to hear all is good with your gun! I actually thought of your thread about at the range and your GF had some ftf's or whatever when we were at the range! :p

Was the round Stove-piping or still in the chamber?

Sometimes it stove piped sometimes it was still in the chamber.

It worked out that I didn't have to replace her or the Glock ;)

No but Canuck posted a vid and then i came across this one too of a guy shooting metal and polymer pistols limp wrist.....

happens....

That video is pretty good. And tells me that I need to buy a few more guns to be able to do in depth comparisons like that on my own. :)

Ha yeah good thing you don't have to replace either!!

And yeah that video is interesting. It's crazy how out of all the steel there was one jam and the Glock never worked once! I guess it's a pretty extreme limp wrist tho. Ha notice on a few of them he sweeps his buddy with the camera pretty good. yikes! This is why we only loaded one round in our mag, and were not so extreme with our rubber wrists lol. I definitely agree I wish I had all those firearms to even consider comparing!! Oh well soon enough.

Anyway good to hear both the GF and Glock are working out!! :)
