Saved a young bucks life tonight!

i'm still fairly new to hunting (this is my first year) but what i have been hearing is that if the land is not posted "no hunting" "no trespassing" or something along those lines it is implied that you can hunt there.

i am not condoning him hunting after hours or from the truck, but i didn't see the OP mention it was posted land.

if i'm way off let me know

unless it's crown land you need permission weather it's posted or not.

All b.s. and arguing aside is it illegal to look at a deer through a scope with an unloaded rifle if I am wrong I stand corrected.Christ I look at my horses through a scope if I dont have any binocs. Also what exactly is a redneck hunter someone that can out shoot you?

Do you not remember your basic gun safety? remember the rule "never point the gun at anything you don't intend to shoot" well glassing a deer with your rifle scope would be a no-no wouldn't it? you may intend to shoot it eventually, but if you are glassing it to see how big it is, figure out of it's a buck or a doe, while tail or muley, legal or not, then you aren't intending to shoot it. That's my feelings on it. There is a reason they make bino's

If your not hunting or commiting an offence then just answer a few simple questions and be on your way. Wildlife related offences make up only a portion of the charges layed at checkstops.

After reading everyones rants on here have none of you guys ever checked out a buck with your rifle scope?I dont know if this guy was going to shoot or not but who on here has not looked through their scope to check out a deer,as far as saving a deers life how about get a life.

i do it all the time, good point. i must point out i under no circumstances road hunt. If i see a nice buck i will pass on him.

Wow, lots of opinions so far. I guess I'm different than some of you, like someone mentioned, I too was taught never to aim at anything I wasn't going to shoot. I can honestly say I have never used my rifle scope to glass anything out the truck. There's always a set of binos in the truck for that. And during gun seasons, my lightweight Zeiss 8x32's are always hanging around my neck. The view through my binos decides whether the rifle gets lifted. When I'm looking through my riflescope, it's because something is about to die.

Not is Sask if the owner(s) doesn't want it hunted on or permission only they must put up signs. Personally it's still an unwritten rule to ask permission. Really these "I am better than you because I sit in the bush or walk in the bush" threads/posts are getting old..I realize this was a little different.. but it's getting sickening...really.

Glad to hear that you were taught properly mbbushman. Every year I witness way too many Manitobans road hunting. Or driving down "my" trails in diesel trucks with their wives holding their loaded guns. That usually makes my day.

People bragging that their firearm of choice for whitetail is a .17hmr also get lumped in there with them.

I don't think it's so much that people think they are better. It's that they know that they are legal and not poaching.

usually i use binos as well but sometimes they get left at home by accident.

Ok non poacher..your on your way to "your trails"..and you see a buck on your way, in a feld, that you know the owner of..your not going to shoot it?
Also sounds like you have a problem with a guy and his family getting in a truck and hunting..nice thats great.

If I were to post land it would be "Hunting by written permission only" My number would be on the sign. There would be no excuse if caught on the land without it. Your A++ would be charged if you did not have it on you if approached by ANY law enforcement officer.

I DESPISE road hunters.

In Saskatchewan you require permission to hunt within 500 meters of a building occupied by people or a stockade, or corral occupied by livestock. No signs are required.

not alot of people hunt in a farm yard.....

A home located anywhere close to the center of 1/4 section, makes the entire 1/4 section out of bounds without permission. The same goes for a corral. That regulation can refer to a good amount of land in farm country.
