The problem with any group buy, and this has been shown with krieger barrels and a couple of other buys that people tried to start, is that while it is an idea you will get hundreds of people say they are in. Then it comes time to fork over some money or make a firm commitment and the forum becomes silent it's never heard from again.
Yeah, that's likely to happen.
The best thing to do would be to try and keep the prices down but typically custom and one shot runs aren't exactly cheap.
ARMCO tuned Norincos with some stamping or engraving would probably be a good bet to keep the prices down, but that's likely going to turn a lot of people off due to the fact of them being Norincos.
If the price is right I might be in, but the problem for me is what exactly is going to make these pistols stand out? Would paying the extra money be worth it to have a Beaver and "CGN" marked on the gun? Are any upgrade parts going into these? Is there going to be any optional parts? Or is there going to be a proceed donation to CGN or the CSSA? Perhaps a portion could go to an ongoing legal battle? something of that nature? (like commemorative products often include)
I think its a great idea to bring to the table but its probably going to be a long, long road to get anything organized or let alone produced.
There's likely going to be a lot of argument over what engravings or parts are going to make these pistols unique. We all know theres gonna be at least 15 pages of:
"NO the beaver should go here!"
"No the beaver should look like this!"
"There should be a Canadian Flag/Maple Leaf on the slide"
"There should be a Canadian Flag/Maple Leaf but it should be here instead of there!"
"There should be a mounted RCMP officer, a bear, a Lee enfield rifle, the Rocky mountains and the Canadian national anthem all engraved on the slide"
"It should be double stack/Single stack!"
"I'd like to see it offered in .45acp, 9mm, 7.62x25, 10mm, .50AE, .30-06 and .17HM2" (that one was for the folks on the "Ideas for Dominion Arms" thread

)
Also if the CF 1911 thread is any example of how to conduct these discussions we missed one super serious and critical area of discussion, we haven't decided who can buy them and who can't
Jokes aside, like I said before, it sounds like a great idea but I can see it dieing off while 350 of us argue about the way it looks or functions, whilst one or two poor souls trying to take charge and pilot the project are phoning around trying to find a gunsmith or manufacturer willing to do it.
Hopefully I'll be proved wrong
