As from the now locked thread at the CF 1911, someone mentioned someone should go about doing a CGN run of guns. Just wondering how hard it would be to do something like this. I know on other forums Ive been on some have done custom runs of knives with the forum logos on them and such.

I would personally love to have a handgun with the beaver on it or at least stamped Canadian Gun Nutz :D

Would this be the elite operator edition in secret ninja black with punisher skull and Chris Costa front rail beard attachment? If so count me in!!!

A few years ago there was a limited run of Dlask ar lowers with CGN beaver and custom serial numbers.
I am sure that Dlask would do a run on something special if someone were to contact him but I believe you need to get approval for a group buy on cgn from GT.IIRC

I think that would be a cool idea, a 1911 with CGN etched on it. Maybe an economically friendly 1911, cause I want one too.
peace...

Im not doing a group order, just wondering if a company would do it (and seeing the CGN AR lowers it seem they will) and wondering if someone would talk to GT and get one started :D

x2

CGN Norinco? :D

Just get ARMCO to do a group buy in people sending in slides and having them stamped with Canadian Gunnutz or something like that :p

Well the basic Dlask 1911 is only $1250 or something, isn't it? That's a pretty reasonable price for the starting point of a customized pistol considering they're fit together from choice parts by an expert smith.

Very subtle but I'm not really interested in anything right now so you are going to have to do it yourself.
Nice try though!!

The problem with any group buy, and this has been shown with krieger barrels and a couple of other buys that people tried to start, is that while it is an idea you will get hundreds of people say they are in. Then it comes time to fork over some money or make a firm commitment and the forum becomes silent it's never heard from again.

If the deal is right and the piece is good I will prepay for it sight unseen.

that should be the requirement for a group buy...

Yeah, that's likely to happen.

The best thing to do would be to try and keep the prices down but typically custom and one shot runs aren't exactly cheap.

ARMCO tuned Norincos with some stamping or engraving would probably be a good bet to keep the prices down, but that's likely going to turn a lot of people off due to the fact of them being Norincos.

If the price is right I might be in, but the problem for me is what exactly is going to make these pistols stand out? Would paying the extra money be worth it to have a Beaver and "CGN" marked on the gun? Are any upgrade parts going into these? Is there going to be any optional parts? Or is there going to be a proceed donation to CGN or the CSSA? Perhaps a portion could go to an ongoing legal battle? something of that nature? (like commemorative products often include)

I think its a great idea to bring to the table but its probably going to be a long, long road to get anything organized or let alone produced.
There's likely going to be a lot of argument over what engravings or parts are going to make these pistols unique. We all know theres gonna be at least 15 pages of:

"NO the beaver should go here!"

"No the beaver should look like this!"

"There should be a Canadian Flag/Maple Leaf on the slide"

"There should be a Canadian Flag/Maple Leaf but it should be here instead of there!"

"There should be a mounted RCMP officer, a bear, a Lee enfield rifle, the Rocky mountains and the Canadian national anthem all engraved on the slide"

"It should be double stack/Single stack!"

"I'd like to see it offered in .45acp, 9mm, 7.62x25, 10mm, .50AE, .30-06 and .17HM2" (that one was for the folks on the "Ideas for Dominion Arms" thread :D)

Also if the CF 1911 thread is any example of how to conduct these discussions we missed one super serious and critical area of discussion, we haven't decided who can buy them and who can't  f:P:2:

Jokes aside, like I said before, it sounds like a great idea but I can see it dieing off while 350 of us argue about the way it looks or functions, whilst one or two poor souls trying to take charge and pilot the project are phoning around trying to find a gunsmith or manufacturer willing to do it.

Hopefully I'll be proved wrong

With all the differing opinions, maybe the person(s) spearheading this could pick something, and that's it. Buy in or don't. If you went with Dlask or Armco, you keep it Canadian and they might be more likely to do small lots (pure speculation on my part) than a bigger outfit.

Another option to take care of differing opinions would be to offer a "CGN" top end that the buyer could mate to their favorite frame. This would eliminate the problem of which parts/how tuned, and could lower the cost dramatically, if cost is an issue. Then just offer a choice of finish to appeal to more, and their new slide could be matched to their existing pistol. An option for something like this could be Nick @ Vulcan, who is a wizard with engraving and finishes.

As for engraving or markings, pick something tasteful, and leave it at that. Offering too many choices/options changes it from a limited run of a few, to a random mess of pistols that really have nothing in common, and therefore no significance.

Just my opinion.
