Yahoooo, I've been meaning to get a project like this happening over the many years I've shot Precision Rifle matches and hunted with my M700's... :D Many of you know me at the M14 dude, but frankly, I've haven't competed with an M14 since 2005 (Service Rifle and Sniper rifle), some of you know me at a Rem M700 and Winnie Model 70 guy! Well, here's a post for the M700 lovers. I would like to dearly call it M700 #### but Tac Bolt Knob Install Review will be more appropriate.

I've been wanting to get this done for so long, but just never got around to it. So after working some extra shifts and obtaining a bit extra money, I've smartened up and supported one of our CGNutz dealers: Allen Gun Works

The bolt knobs set me back $ 35 each and the installation was $ 35 each. Simple enough math for me. The return mailing , I also had to look after. And since I was not sure of the final price including McSquinty's HST of 13%, I just EMT'ed the final amount to Mike (after he invoiced me via PM on CGNutz) who is just back from Azzkrakistan, Thanks to Allah! :D

Great black matte anodizing ! Matches the SPS finish

Here's a pic of the bolt knobs (2 of them) that returned today from Allen Gun Works in Northern Ontario:

Here's a picture of the knobs with the unblued portion showing. A quick touchup with the Gun Blue Paste from Birchwood Casey's lineup solved that problem immediately. Have a gander at the before and after pictures

Here's the picture of the bolt handles AFTER touching up with the Gun Blue Paste. Beauty looking, eh? What a nice looking bolt handle after the touch up. Life is sweet. Then I installed the bolt handles in both rifles....

Both my hunting Remington M700's... even if I love my Winchester Model 70's also!

Here's your chance to get your bolt handles converted if you ever thought about it! Cannot forget that other CGNutz dealers/smiths like Alberta Tactical Rifle, Casey at TacOrd, Accurate Action, and more carry out this operation. Life is too short to wait. I'm kinda bummed out that I waited this long, but also glad that everything worked out well. That's what I get for 'sitting on the pot' too long.

Cheers and happy tweaking :)

just to throw it out there, a bolt handle with a built in wrench for removing the scope ?

There are a couple of rifle makers in the states that offer this:
Precision Shooting Sports is one.

Thanks for the kind words Barney!

Jerry, more shapes to come. Need some suggestions. Bead blasted Stainless will be in the next batch as well.

Maybe add a weld on top of the threading, knurl, and re-kote (or re-whatever)
Here's mine:

Older pic, dog hair makes me miss the pooch <sniff>

Just a thought if any welding is being done on a M700 handle - the handle is brazed to the bolt body. Not a problem as long as the welder understands this, and controls the heat.

Thanks for that, I was thinking about getting that done but I guess my knob is just fine the way it is.

(After your pics, Hungry, I still have knob envy though!.) :D:D:D

Frankly, I was just worried that if I showed up to an ORA Precision Rifle match with box stock M700 sniper rig, my #### might fall  off! :D

Now I can blend in with the cool shooters!

Cheers,

 Barney :ar15:

It actually does serve a purpose. Some of the tac matches you have to get your shots off quite rapidly, and it totally helps for this. Mine had blood on it after one of the matches from racking it like a madman, I couldn't bring myself to wipe it off, it looked so badass lol

Casey at Tactical Ordnance did mine on my 700P and I am now getting it done on a Custom 700 that I am building. ww w.tacord.com

hey I also have a rifle at Casey's! Gunsmith bros LOL. Bet whose rifle comes back first?

I also have a bolt at Mike's place. I support polygunsmithy!

After reading of Barney's concern and not wanting to jeopardize my current relationish... I just had to send my bolts to be "fixed" :D

I can now go to the ORA match, knowning that my knob(s) are secured w:h:

At the ORA matches; you too can be cool like me~ LOL I might not be able to get all 10 hits on the 400m Mover, but we will look good! That's all that matters... the LCF (look cool factor).

Bolt knobs

I too have had 4 knobs done to date and I could not be happier. The turn around was like 3 days for my last job. It is all about the look for sure and this is a cheap way to give your Remington an expensive look.
