my 870 has a knox spec ops stock that works great. the knox makes the recoil more tolerable, but when you forget to extend the stock all the way with a scope on it really sucks. the stock compresses 2-3" at the shot to absorb recoil so its rather important to extend the stock to its longest position. apparently i forgot this time.

probably need stitches as its a good 1/4" deep, but those tiny band aids seem to be doing the trick. left one heck of a blood trail on the way to the target and back, which was 100 yards at the time.

the shotgun hunt starts tomorrow and i still need to take a few more shots to sight in. so much for a morning hunt. i really hope i dont develop a flinch because of this...

any other fun stories?

The worst part is explaing your injuries on Monday morning. The last time this happened to me I got ribbed at work for weeks.

Tsk, Tsk. Shot yourself with the wrong end of your own gun. Takes skills, man.

Last year, I scoped myself with a full house 45-70 load. I couldn't get the butt pad on my shoulder straight with a buck right in my face and a tree in the way of the gun. It slipped off my shoulder when I shot the deer at point blank.

I was very glad not to be discovered dressing that buck with a black eye and blood drizzling down my face.

The question is:

Are you going to sue the scope manufacturer of the firearm manufacturer!?:p

Sorry couldn't resist!

As for funny stories:

Took my b-i-l out target shooting once. Shooting a sporterized Enfield in 7.62 x 51. We are shooting from the prone. Lines everything up. At the last second he pulls the rifle away from his shoulder as he was afraid it would hurt. Pulls the trigger and his eye takes the full hit.

Bleeding like a stuck pig, we rush him over to emerg. All the way we are trying to figure out what our story is going to be as we dont want the added attention and turn this into a "gun issue"

Then it dawns on me! Our story was we were putting in chain link fence, i turned with one of the pipes and hit him square in the eye. They bought the story.

B-I-L was pissed. Not because he got caught, but becuase he lit up a cigar right after the hit and wanted to chill a bit. Bled all over that cigar and ruined it for him.:p

CH312, you're an ass but that being said, even the best shooters/hunters can/have been ##### slapped by their scopes. :D

I did it the first time shooting a new scope. I mounted it a little too far back and didn't adjust the depth which placed me too far forward and too close. Luckily though I didn't need stitches but I did see stars.

Hope you're ok and at least it wasn't bad enough that it actually hit your eye itself.

I did it last Friday. I had to make a fast shot at a buck from a tree stand, and I must have shouldered the rifle in a different manner, because I'd never had it happen with that rifle before.

I too got "scoped" earlier this fall. Two days later, I went on a blind date, and the first question I had to answer was about the origin of the scar on my forehead. Not sure if the scar played any part in it, but I did not get the girl!!!

Everyone gets kissed at least once...my ML got me last year...no cut, but a nice goose egg on my eyebrow...lol

It happened to me, opening day for moose a few years back. Went to the emerge and told the doc i walked into a door. He said I was the third one that day!! He then asked if the door was on a cutover or a bog.

Never been really "scope-bit". A couple times I've gotten just barely touched by the scope, enough to remind me to pay attention when shooting my magnums! I have seen some good ones though!!
