Best place to buy a sks online?

I own a number of SKS's -- all Russian. You can't go wrong with them. I am spending more on a used fiberglass stock for my M305 than what some SKS's are going for these days! Buy one, shoot the hell out of it, and enjoy it. It will likely never break or wear out. If you get the SKS bug, go out and buy a few more, and perhaps spend a few more dollars on a hand-picked one. Personally, I think the uglier the better when it comes to shooter grade SKS's as you worry less about aesthetics and can focus on improving your shooting skills. One of my least "perfect" SKS regularly shoots 3 inch groups at 100 metres using the iron sights and surplus ammo!

There are definately some haters out there, but LeBaron gets some very nicely refurbished Russain SKS's from time to time.

They all generally have nice shiney chrome barrels, with non-forced matching components. I've bought 3 from LeBaron and I'm very satisfied with all of them. I bought locally so I was able to avoid shipping costs.

As an aside, i bought a case of mil surp ammo from Marstar and was charged over $50 shipping. Thats more than 25% of the cost of the actual case opf ammo. Needless to say I was not impressed.

Oh, and last point. Early 1951 is when the Russians introduced the chome lined barrel to their SKS's. Regardless of the year though, most arsenal refurbished SKS's are refitted with chromed barrels.

weimajack (Jacque's in Quebec to!) ;)

If you're in southern Ontario and prefer to handle before you purchase (though you won't get burned by Jacque), check out the Markham or Mississauga lebaron's! They have some very nice examples indeed.

weimajack can be found here

I bought my SKS/ammo from ki11ercane. I bought it and picked it up in person from his store in Winnipeg. I would have no problem dealing with him again and in fact I plan to go back to him for my next crate of surplus ammo. The rifle I got was your typical russian refurb job. The upper hand guard and lower stock don't quite match 100% in terms of color. Bolt carrier is black, not shiney like some you see. Bayonet is painted in a cheap looking grey silver paint. The stock definitely does not fit that tightly on the receiver/barrel assy. I've blown 400 rounds of the corrosive surplus through it with no issues. I didn't have to clean the rifle I got from him right after I bought it, I just bought it, put ammo in it and took it out shooting. Zero issues with the gun and accuracy is exactly what you'd expect out of any sks.

One suggestion for you playkaton, clean your rifle. With surplus ammunition you always need to clean your rifle.
Also if you clean your rifle as soon as you get it, you can spot if something is wrong with it right away. This rule applies to all rifles not just SKS.
Even a stick shoots once a year. And those been stored for a while.

Sorry for going a little O/T here, but has anyone ever come across an "Honor Guard" SKS for sale? In particular, ones that are chromed and/or have a white sling?

Any were but LEVER ARMS!
Spare yourself the headache. Also check out many of our site sponser's like Trade Ex, Frontier or Marstar just to name a few.

The honor guard type of SKS that's sold in North America were made for the market over here. They are not the real deal Parade Rifle.

I bought a silver bolt SKS from SFRC here for $189. Great service and speedy shipping - I had it a week after I ordered it online.

It came with the usual SKS accessories. The two things I was surprised about was that it came shipped in 4 pieces-the stock, action/barrel, trigger group and magazine were all packed separately in cardboard, and most of the cosmoline that SKS's usually are shipped with had been cleaned off. Everything was matched except the stock and gas tube.

I had to do some cleaning, but nowhere near the cleaning I had to do with the first SKS I bought from a dealer.

I'm fairly new to this (having just got my PAL) and was gonna pick up one from Lever arms.
But now reading this forum I'm likely gonna go with Killercane.

I appreciate the heads up thoe.

Ya if you like waiting for your non-restricted then having to do the transfer your self & oh ya did I mention the piss poor customer service? Also they will let you look at them but won't let you inspect them and all in all quite annoying to deal with. I would rather go to Reliable Gun or Wanstalls & pay the same price with out the headache's. Who knows though, it may be your lucky day and you won't have to deal with the wanker's in there. If you do end up buying from them try looking for a young chinese kid as he is quite helpful.
