Rifle Transport Considerations.

I use my cases to carry more than just the rifle. I have a cleaning rod, patches, jags, oil bottles, chamber guides, bristle toothbrushes, small tools, etc in there too. I leave the foam intact and let everything clamp in place.

When I found one of my cheapo plastic cases was too flimsy to protect the gun for flying, I reinforced the six sides with removable slabs of 1/4" Masonite cut to fit. It stiffened the whole case considerably.

Unless I'm flying I leave the bolt in and bipod on. I cut the foam in my 1750 with an electric knife. Still haven't cut the foam in my 1700 for my double yet.

I cut out a few different guns so i can swap out the middle foam piece.

I do not cut my foam either.

Don't the Pelican cases come with the 'pic-n-pluck' foam? I know my small one for my chronograph did.

Not the rifle cases, they come with two layers of 2" solid foam.

I normally don't cut the foam, unless I have to to close the case.

Also consider using the hard shell case to hold your soft case with firearm inside.
You can use the hardshell for vehicular transport and softshell for carry transport when arriving at destination .
My softshell case has storage pockets and pack shoulder straps for hand transport.A lot easier than dragging the hardcase around.
Have seen a few setups like it. You can still put the foam back in the hardcase with all
cutouts after. Just an option.

Ok, bolt out pod off. We've all heard of the pelican cases...has anyone tried this with the Tuffpak cases?

Bolt out, bipod off. If you are flying with the gun(s) then it's a good idea to plan the layout in the case in such a way that the serial numbers are visible, without the need to actually remove the gun.

Here's the one I built. Three layers of 2" foam. Cut the middle layer out with a new X-acto blade.
