Got to thinking about this and thought it is possible to work with a U.S. distributor and bring in Leupold Optics and do regular shipments back and forth across the border, legally, honor warranty through the U.S. and go around the sole Canadian distributor who needs some legitmate competion.

Question is: If Leupold prices were close to parity with the U.S. who would buy New Leupold scopes in Canada?

I could only say maybe. I have extra scopes lying around right now. If I didn`t, I`d try one of Leupold`s new Redfields first. I don`t suppose they are quite as good as Leupolds, but probably closer than their price suggests.

considering how big a company Korth is i dont think they will allow you to do it.
As soon as Korth find out your doing that then they will ask Leupold to get involved and stop the sale from you distribitor.
They have done it in the past.
Korth spent many years as a leupold distribtor i think they have alot of pull with them.

There new socialist agenda were they removed all the competion and left 1 company to dictate pricing and if they deem you valid enough to do warranty repair is 1 reason why I sold all my leupolds and will never by 1 again until they change back to a free market ideology.

Your comment, coming from a dealer, pretty much summarizes why it should be done. Korth has a monopoly that needs to be broken and it can be, there are laws in this country that actually protect the consumer from monopolies and if there ever was a great case, this might be it. Looking at it from all angles and looking to get leupolds to the dealers who Korth won't deal with. Korth was great when Daddy ran it now its awful, aimho

technically Korth does not have a monopoly as rifle scopes are available elsewhere from other manufacturers...
Canada is small enough marketwise to have situations like this exist in all sorts of industrys however most do not have a "you buy it here or else warranty policy"
in skis for instance the warranty for most companies is "world wide" but you need a receipt to prove you bought it from an authorized dealer somewhere

You can do it right now, but there will be no warranty. There are fellows selling grey market Leupolds and Zeiss Conquest on the EE right now. FS

Pretty much use this analogy for all of the scope companies in Canada in relative terms to USA pricing, Nikon,Bushnell Leuppy all in the same boat. FS

No, a monopoly would be if the government were to permit only one company to manufacture or sell riflescopes.

While I'm not to keen on their current policy, Leupold has the right to enter into whatever relationship they choose with distributors. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy a Leupold; it's not like there aren't any alternatives.
