the anti hunting, anti gun crowd would not know or care if Sarah is familar with guns or anything else. They are just anti. She may not have handled herself as some would wish (I cringed myself) but she is out there promoting hunting which is a good thing. I wish her well.
I'm afraid she's only convincing the believers.
What I'm really afraid of is that she won't be able to convince or turn any antis. They'll think "There's a woman who can't even tell what newspapers she reads and there she is with a gun. Are all shooters as dumb?"
Sure it does, but man, the show is so damn lame it almost doesn't! Every clip I see she is acting/talking like she has never been outside in Alaska let alone this great outdoorsy girl she is portrayed as. She sounds like a gumshoe slicker in awe of something that should be 'mundane' for her.

The show is cheesy as hell, and those of us who actually live the life she is trying to portray know it. The suburban housewives, however, don't, and that is why it is advantageous to us. They see this stuff and eat it up, and as a few posters have demonstrated, it softens them up to hunting. Even if it is slightly inaccurate, i would rather a program represent us i a positive light rather than a negative one, which is the norm most times.
In other news, Santa isn't sure how to get around this Christmas....

Good points on both sides.. she's a crappy hunter, but she promotes the sport to those who don't know any better.

I've never hunted caribou, but my father did one time. He said they just stood there, even after you shot. Once they found the herd everyone was done hunting in half an hour, and they played cards for the rest of the week.
Wow settle down boys. No need to be harsh on the woman. I bet she would make a F+++ of a better PM or politician in our country than what we have.
Now have any of you ACTUALLY watched the ENTIRE episode? If you would have, you would have seen that her dad while carrying the rifle fell over while making his way down a bank through scrub. He more than likely knocked the scope out at that time. That was my first thought after the second shot and she missed.
Regardless if it is a publicity show or not, many of us get to see what we may never get to likely see, ALASKA in its glory.

I'm just watching the episode, and I all I can say is I wish thebigslide was here with me so I could slap him on the back while I laugh to stitches. There is NO way this was canned, for one, pure tundra hunt. Number 2, she missed with a gun that proved to be knocked off zero (her dad bet her she was missing, not the gun, but he shot the gun and found it was shooting off too). She hit, and killed, the caribou with one shot when she took her friend's properly sighted in rifle. Frankly, seen in the context of the whole episode, I'm impressed and I don't even like Palin. Well done, that was a hundred times better than I anticipated, and frankly, she made hunting look good not bad when you actually watch the episode. A lot of ignorance in this thread.
I watched it again with my wife right now as well she was laughing thru the entire episode now we're watching the new show where the 8 kids and there mother are going camping with + Sarah just bought a 12 gauge pump shotgun and is going for bear defense training called Learn to Return...

I agree that she doesn't appear to be a "seasoned hunter". But if you watched the episode you'd know that her father was carrying the rifle when he tripped and took a fairly impressive tumble coming down a hill. After the fact Sarah bet her father $5 that the scope was off. He shot it and it was way high. She may not be perfect, but she certainly isn't half-bad. But nowhere as good as you, for certain.
