I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback on Cooper rifles. I have an interest in them but would like some opinions from owners, or whoever else has hefted one or two. How is the quality, price , accuracy? How would the compare to a Sako or Kimber? Thanks in advance to all who reply...

I will own one as soon as Clay's next shipment gets here. I have a friend who has owned a couple and says they are great.

I have owned six Coopers,I currently own four, with another one on order.I have also owned Sako, and have used Kimber, and I prefer Cooper. The only negative is the lack of stainless actions, magnum actions or small cartridge(223 size) repeaters. The stainless and magnum actions will be available soon.

I had an Excalibur. Fit and finish was excellent, as was accuarcy. I wasn't too overwhelmed by the Bell and Carlson stock, I wish they would go to a McMillan or something a little trimmer.
The magazine was a bit of a pain to load, but that's pretty normal for a single stack.

I would love to see McMillan supply the stocks for Cooper, but the Bell&Carlsons are a huge step up from the molded plastic that most companies including Sako offer.

How do they compare to the Sakos? I've learned that I prefer the heavier barreled rifles, and have yet to paw a Cooper, but looking forward to it... Also a wood nut and figure that they must come with a good piece of lumber? Thinking that a 30-06 model would look good in my case and next to the moose I bag in 2011... Still, I think it's going to be between Anchutz (sic), CZ, Sako and Cooper...

I am not at all into wood stocks, and if I must have wood,it is laminate if at all possible. That being said,Cooper does use some very nice wood, but I won't pay a premium for it.As far as fit and finish goes, they are very good.Accuracy is generally very good, triggers are quite good as well.I really like the design of the magazines, and the smoothness of the bolts.I rate them slightly above Sako.

My one Cooper is a M22 Varminter in 25-06AI, definatly my favorite rifle, can't really say anything bad about it.

True. On a $2200+ rifle I would expect something better than a $250 retail price stock. I assume Cooper pays no more than $100-$150 for those B&C stocks. Even Remington uses HS Precision, a step up from B&C, IMO.

That said, Sako stocks are worse, as you mention, and I'm not crazy about the Kimber Montana stock either.

Yet somehow all the above makers have some very highly figured walnut, the nod going to Cooper on wood from the ones I looked at south of the border.

I have a Cooper and a Sako AV. I love them both. The fit and finish is about the same, the wood on my Sako Deluxe I think is nicer.

I would assume you got yours at the same place as most others. Excalibur is $2199 there. I suppose after buying 6 of them, a discount was rightfully applied. However, most hunters don't own 2 identical guns in the same caliber.

I don't buy Excaliburs.

I have owned up to 5 virtually identical guns in the same caliber at the same time,a 7mm-08,a 7mmremmag,two 7mmstws,and a 7mmRUM.

I thought Cooper only made wood stocked rifles??:D:p:eek:
If I'm buying a Cooper its gonna have great looking stick on it and its gonna get used. all my synthetics are HS which is better than the BC's IMHO. Worst case I buy one rifle and 2 stocks.

I actually prefer the fit of the Jackson Hunter stock over the classic style H-S Precision stocks.

I buy my guns to shoot, and not to sit back and admire,so I buy synthetic stocks instead of spending extra money on fancy looking termite bait.:p

Luckily for me,that leaves me with cash left over to buy more guns.:D

I love the practicality of a good synthetic, most of mine are. But the really nice figure in something like Bulls_eye's Custom Classic transcends practical and takes the rifle into another dimension mere mortals have difficulty comprehending... if ya get my drift:cool:
