Springfield Armory 1911---> Pros and cons please...

Is it easy to get parts for them ? ( for repairs as they age )

Do they retain their value well ?

Who sells them in Canada ?

They take standard 1911 parts, which are available from a variety of sources.

Wolverine Supplies lists Springfield 1911s on their website.

I would definitely choose a Springfield over a Kimber or S&W. The Range Officer model looks appealing in that it forgoes two of the items that I most dislike that are commonly found on most "full feature" 1911s these days: forward slide serrations and a full-length guide rod.

Apparently the barrel fitting of the Range Officer pistols is on par with the much more expensive TRP.

Another advantage of the Springfield pistols is that the slide and frame are forged.

It seems like I don't have enough privileges to access this page.

Ya you have to join the EE group and get approved.

Great guns, but not easy to get, the Distributor is Nicolls and we all know how hard it is to deal with them. I was going to buy an MC Operator, but I was told 10-14 month wait, not in the cards for me.

I bought my first Springfield from Wolverine Supplies in Virden, MB. When I took it into Dlask to install some parts he said he thought Springers were a good solid gun, and at the time, better than Kimbers.

The mil-spec newshot has up for sale is a decent deal. If I didn't already have the same pistol I'd buy it.

Just for the heck of it, these are my two Springfields. Everybody else was doing it.:)

I don't own this anymore but I'll play, I had a Professional done up on a loaded almost 10 years ago also...I can't stand the front serrations but the TRPs are super nice guns...

Lots of good info in this thread; does anyone own one of the mil-spec models? Just wondering how happy you are with it and where is a good place to start looking (dealers) etc,.
Thanks!

As of a few weeks ago Dante Sport in Monteal had either a G.I or a mil-spec model in stock. I can't remember which one it was.

check out Wild West Shooting in Edmonton (they have a web site as well) - there is a no-tax event on right now so you can get a parkerized G.I. for $775, parkerized milspec for $899, or stainless milspec for $975. No taxes! awesome deals.

Thanks for a heads up! Will check it out,
