Merry Christmas to me! Early present, CSA carbine with lots of pics!

No, I haven't tried a NEA lower on it yet. I'll do that this afternoon or evening.

When you say VZ are you referring to a CSA gun?

Now that there's 4 different makers and about a dozen models of VZ-type rifles in country it's getting more difficult to keep them all straight.

Wow, I did not realize that there were that many, I've been so focused on getting the new CSA carbine ever since Wolverine announced it that I haven't been paying attention to the others. I've only played with CZ-858 and CSA VZ-58.

Also, Steveo, you mentioned in your first post that the front sight was over to the left, mine was the same way when I received it (not quite as far as yours) but I had previously bought one of the front sight adjustment tools for CZ/VZ rifles from GP Tactical, I centred the sight and sighted it in, took a few adjustments but it is sighted in at centre, not the way it came out of the box.

The front sight tool works great. Should have bought one a long time ago.

That's interesting. IIRC the front sight on the Wolverine torture demo gun was off to one side out of the box, as well.

I've got one of these tools. It's awesome.

Yes, I'd much rather have the ambi selector on this rifle, especially since I don't intend to put a magnified optic on it. I already have the NEA parts to put on so I don't need to buy a CSA side mount. Also, the mount has sharp corners and edges which cause discomfort to my delicate hands.;)

There are non-magnified red dot side mount scopes available to put on that rail...Is it correct that rifle was with non-folding stock and you changed it to folder? Or it came like this? Because it wood be strange if factory put a side rail and folding stock on the same rifle. It's not possible to slide POSP scope on this combination as the rear sling bracket (welded to the stock) is a road block...

These ones come with the folding stock and the scope rail from the factory. I will be removing the scope rail anyway, but I find it interesting that the CSA scope mount would not slide on in it's current configuration :)

OK, so speaking of selectors, the CSA VZ-58 selector is opposite to the CZ-858 selector, I really like the selector that's on the 858 as I find it easier to pull the selector back to go from Safe to Fire rather than push it forward as is the case with the CSA carbines. Does anyone know if you can put a CZ-858 selector and internals from a CZ parts kit in a CSA VZ carbine, grind of the little point on the selector (due to the stop pins being opposite in the VZ) and have the selector move backwards instead of forwards. Or is that just too much like hard work? (I'm assuming that there might be an issue with there being no point to rest on the stop pins and the selector might just keep rotating until something fails)

Or perhaps I should just man up and deal with the fact that the selector is opposite :)

Have you tried using the set screws to tension the rail or tweaking the ears in with a vise? Is not having the paint on the FSN making the difference in fit?

no, i will be leaving the NEA rail on both of my CZ and get another for the FSN.

Thats funny. Mine is extremely tight and was super hard to get on.

funny is right cos i have a NEA gen 1 on my CZ858-4 and a NEA gen 3 on my CZ858-2 and both are too loose on my FSN.

Use the set screw points on the nose and legs to remove the play.

fsn,csa,cz... who's the fourth?

Marstar was the first to bring VZ 58-type rifles in to Canada with the CZH models.

It came with the folder. That's interesting info. I wonder if the CSA side-mount somehow gets past that issues?

I don't know if you can put one in. I've never tried.

I think you should ask Charles Martel to get some of those ambi-selectors back in production. They allow you to flick the safety off with your thumb and pull it back on with your trigger finger. It's much better than either direction of movement single-sided. It was easy to install in the CSA but you do have to lose the side rail if you want to go ambi.

I didn't make it out to the range. I'm working midnights and just woke up.

I'm having a real issue with where to mount my light on my DLASK short conversion. There's no room to put a NEA barrel mounted rail, and there just isn't enough room to mount it on the hand guard and not interfere with my grip. Also, if you do mount it on the hand guard, turn the light on and it lights up the front sight tower like a Christmas tree. Very distracting, especially if you are co-witness on the irons. I've tried offset mounts as well and they still cause the aforementioned problems.

The only thing I can think of is that this POS might work...the screws look long enough that they might fit over the front sight collar.

I know, I know, high class problems.:D

Clobb, I cant find any pics of your shorty, do you still have the FSB? I picked up some dirt cheap 11mm airgun rings off evilbay for about $3. They clamp down tight on the bayo lug, I got the ones with that set screw that stops the rings from walking down the rail under recoil. Drop the set screw down in the locking lug bore and tighten everything up. Just be sure theyre tall enough for the light to clear whatever muzzle youre using. Sorry for the threadjacking Stevo

Great plan, I was planning on losing the side rail anyway.

Thanks

No worries. I'm pretty sure Clobb's shorty looks like the CSA guns with the regular FSB right in front of the gas block.
