Merry Christmas to me! Early present, CSA carbine with lots of pics!

Ok, but what size at 200 or 300? Or are you even going to go for that range?

Probably not. I'll zero it at 50, shoot paper at 100m to see where it's hitting, and just shoot steel at 200 to figure out where I need to aim at that distance. We've got some 12" steel hanging at 200m in PR.

So far I've mostly just hot mine offhand. I'm able to hit the gongs reliably at 125 and 200. I'm gonna have to bench mine to see what kind of accuracy I'm getting at 125 yards (we don't have a berm at 100). Maybe next week.

Almost like a double rainbow? ;)

That's not until he gets into the eggnog tonight!:D

Hey Stevo, Can you still use the irons with the NEA stock adapter? Also, is it threaded for a mill spec buffer tube? Also - Cheers and Merry Christmas!

I didn't look at the video but it's rum tonight, sans eggnog.;)

Clobb,
The irons are perfectly usable with the NEA adaptor. Milspec and commercial tubes fit it.

Merry Christmas right back at ya!

Steve

I had my rifle out today the sights are now zero'd for 25 and I tested at 75 125 and 200 with good results. at 200yards it was about 6 inches low. I'm pretty happy with that set up.

The flashlight mount was terrible. It shot loose within about 20 rounds. I'll try it again with better rings but I think I may get the same results.

I really really like that position for the light. My next option is this:

At least I know it won't shoot loose, a little flat black Krylon and Bob's your Uncle. Besides I saw Kevin B. do it once so I know it's kosher.:D

Nothing wrong with a hose clamp or two. You can cover it up with some tactically-coloured duct tape, if it makes you self-concious.;)

Did you zero it to the adjustable sight settings or do you intend to leave the sights at one setting?

WoW now that's some seriuos bullet drop loss. 2 feet differance between 200 & 300 yyards.
Try to get your hands on some DD light mount's. There great!!!

If you want to mount off of the bayonet attachment, this worked very well for me with a bipod. You can easily mount flashlight or laser; has not shot loose on me. You do have to file out the adapter to fit but it not a tough job.

No, I just kept it at it's battle sight setting and adjusted zero to 25 yards. I figured those settings would be off anyway with the reduction in velocity.

Within 200 yards I wanted to have something that you could just put the sights on and pull the trigger, more or less....

Gotcha.

How high was it at 100yds?

I didn't shoot it at 100 as our range only has 25, 75, 125 and 200 yard berms. It was an inch high at 75 and seemed pretty well dead on at 125. At 200 I shot at a silhouette target with the bull in the chest area and I had a nice cluster of shots in his gut area, which was aprox 6 inches low. Right where the ballistic table said it would be. I pays to have a 60 power spotting scope for that.:)

^^^^that looks good. Where did you get it?

I bought this "HAMMERS 3/8"- 7/8" DOVETAIL TO WEAVER ADAPTER MOUNT" off E Bay. I proceeded to dremel and file the adapter large enough to fit on the bayonet mount. Fit is very tight and has never loosened. I filed until I could tap it on with a non marring hammer and tightened up the screws. Have not put a flashlight on it but the adapter did not loosen with the bipod attached.

Here's a link to a 2 pack but there were numerous listings when I had a quick look.

If I was going to do it again I would use a file and forget the dremel since I managed to scratch the adapter with the dremel and had to touch up with paint.

I managed to hit the range today and fired about 110 rounds. No FTE or FTF in the -25 conditions. One of the 6 mags I took to the range didn't latch fully and would come unlatched while shooting. This was with an aftermarket mag release so I don't know where the mag issue lies with the CSA guns.

Also, my front sight post is seriously canted. The post isn't quite as far left as pictured below, but it's damn close. Not very impressive for a $1000 rifle considering that both of my $700 858s are straight.

Overall, I'm pleased with the rifle, despite the poor quality control shown with the front sight base, and the mag fit issues. The paint also seems to be much less durable than the grey on the the 858s. The Aimpoint Comp M2 on the NEA rail worked well, if a bit tall for the folding stock. The NEA heavy brake did a very good job of taming recoil, but it was loud. The NEA hybrid softened the recoil a fair bit without abusing my ear drums.
