Stealth should be a weapon in your arsenal. my $.02.
True, but its tough to do stealth and stay with the non res theme.

Why would you ever plan on finding ammo down the road after a catastrophe serious enough that a rifle was really necessary?I dont exactly get why people think 7.62x39 is so readily available. I'd never even seen 7.62x39 until I visited a large gun shop well into my life. Where do you suppose the marauding hordes will be hitting first? I'd wager the large gun shops that carry x39.
Hunters, on the other hand, are everywhere across Canada, with "normal" ammo available in every town just about. Im sure I could turn up several boxes of 3006, 308, 3030, 12g, within a few hundred meters of my house in a true SHTF scenario. Moving onto .22LR, well, that is readily available everywhere. I'd wager most gun owners own a .22.
The chances are FAR better of finding "fudds" 13 rounds of 3006, or his half full box of .22LR which he purchased new in 1971, then finding "CGNers" crate of x39.
It's why the pistol becomes so valuable in disaster SHTF. On high cannot take away what they cannot see.![]()
Good points but I have sme bad news for you and it was mentioned in this thread before, restricteds are the ones easier for picking since they are the List. In theory by a push of a button, all restricteds, especially pistols can be confiscated quite easily by your local detachment, all they need is good reason to do so. Thats why they are restricted, just a thought.

By the same token, a simple button-activated EMP might wipe-out all the same records...
Needless Disclaimer: I am not advocating the illegal construction/detonation of an EMP-device against government data/facilities...![]()

The CZ858 is smaller in size, and much lighter, making it so much easier to transport and carry than the SKS. Its also more accurate, and with some Fab furniture, and a nice red dot scope, the CZ858 is a modern, light, tactical assault rifle, that is about the size of a Ruger 10/22 carbine. Yes you can get a Tapco stock and mag for the SKS, but its not in the same league. If you had a SKS for a SHTF rifle if would definetely get the job done, but if you had the choice to pick either rifle, the CZ858 is in a different class. The AK47 was invented to replace the SKS and its a big step up from the SKS. The VZ58 was invented by the Czechs because they did'nt want to use the AK47 because they knew that they could make a better design, and they did. The Russians agreed, and let them use it. If the rest of the Warsaw Pact was'nt already being supplied with the AK, then they would of probably used the VZ58 because its better than the AK.
It seems this thread as gone from the best SHTF firearm to the perfect gun for the job..
For firsts, all of you are presuming that you've surpassed the rules of engagements, to the last one thus being use of total force.
This is not the case since a gun can and will be used to persuade or intimidate (Mossberg has a good one the ''Persuader" correct me if I'm worng of course), in SHTF it doesn't mean you'll be shooting everybody, most accounts would be my gun is bigger than yours, now back off scenario if this would ever occur, or the best weapon of all your mouth! If you talk your way out of a situation by outwitting your opponent instead of shooting someone so be it! (This is where people in sales will really shine) I mean most of you on here won't have the guts to pull the trigger if you have to, just quoting by experience.
Use your head then to the next step!
At this time non-restricted guns are also on the list. In the event of a disaster I can't see why it should be any easier to confiscate stuff of the restricted list than off the non-restricted list.
^but if you were stuck in crap with a rifle, which one would you prefer having?
