So IPSC Ont is concerned with loosing Members to IDPA

Bah Competition is for those who have some burning desire to be the best or just to win or both.

I don't know about "those", but I am competing because I want to get better and improve my shooting. You can only improve so far without competing a really good shooters.

Well at least "try" to do your best...

I'm all for newbies and folks comming out to have fun, but I get a little irk'd when I hear a shooter loudly announce he's just there to throw lead and doesn't care at all about score...
It's a bit of an insult to those who've done the work to set up/run the match.
I mean... It's okay to think that in your head, but I don't need to hear it.

I don't think everyone needs to take the game super seriously, but i also don't think making a mockery of peoples efforts by wasting time is very sportsmanlike.

I shot my first IDPA matches this year and really enjoyed it. I was shocked at how many more mental errors I made than shooting errors.

The IDPA website shows no matches scheduled....

Anyone know of any kind of matches I could shoot in the GTA area - Barrie to Kitchener to Oshawa?

What's wrong with coming out to Kingston ;) Match schedule for eastern Ontario will be posted soon.

I have been haunted by this IPSC vs IDPA pendulum myself. Having less time and less money, I have to be more pragmatic with shooting sports I practice that have a purposeful outcome. Pulling the trigger for fun is starting to become less and less of a luxury.

Since being a reality based fighting instructor, it is difficult to shoot IPSC and even IDPA when you are try to follow and teach an adage of "train how you fight, fight how you train."

This is my dilemma.

You could kill your dilemma by realizing/accepting that IDPA/IPSC are just games.

Anyone who believes their participation in either sport somehow prepares one for combat is, well... Dilusional.

Sure it's fun and entertaining in IDPA to shoot "scenario's", but c'mon... the targets don't shoot back and hell, for the most part they don't even move.
It's us grown men playing cops and robbers... It's not "train how you fight, fight how you train"

Good thing Tritium doesn't have that problem.....

How can you not love 3 gun!

(oh and I note that everyone is wearing the flashy clothes that some people seem to think denotes a legitimate shooting sport)

Or makes their sponsors adds stand out, justifying the fact that the boogers are getting paid to do that! i need a new line of work.......

It's all a matter of knowing the difference between a game and reality.

I see zero similarity between IDPA/IPSC and real life. However, I do see the merit of learning and practising safety, good marksmanship, decision-making and gun handling skills against the clock and against other competitors.

If you have an issue switching gears between being an instructor/real gunfighter/training and playing a game, perhaps you need to re-evaluate your own thought processes (I'm not slamming you here but many of the people I've shot with and whom I've taught play games and perform real operations).

Like you, ton, money and time are also issues for me but I seem to be able to do both. At times, I have had to teach when I would rather be shooting a match/playing a game!

But, what do I know, I just look cool in multi-cam!

For me I make the same comparison between racing on a track and driving on the street. While driving at high speed on the track makes some of your skills a bit better, it hardly resembles the morning commute.

This is by far the most important part of any sport, especially the IDPA/IPSC stuff. That is why this year if I do shoot IPSC I'm shaving my legs and wearing a speedo to get that extra edge over the competition. As for IDPA I say the fishing vest is so 2010, bowling shirts are the way to got this year. Just watch the big Lebowski bowling lanes are a scary place!

I gave up on that, I found no speed advantage, but you will get a nasty itch and Tritium will always be trying to hump your leg...
