The worse rifle you ever owned

The problem I had with that particular gun is that it would have cost me twice as much or more, than what I paid for it, to make it an accurate shooter. By the time you change the trigger, hammer, barrel, get it bedded, etc. you really don't have a Ruger 10/22 anymore. When I bought it I didn't realize I was going to have to put a lot more money into it just to make it shoot half decent. It is probable that the one I had was a lemon, as my wife's 10/22 isn't as bad a shooter, but could still benefit from the forementioned mods. ck

Mine is just a plain SS with synthetic stock model I paid $299 for, but with (home done...easy) bedding of the action it shoots extremely well. I agree that it would be rather counter to the whole idea of an inexpensive .22 if one had to do the extensive mods you suggest. Mine was pretty darned good right out of the box and I feel no need to make any additional changes from stock. But hey, we're supposed to be discussing guns we DON'T like :)

Steyr Professional 270 Cal NIB complete with a test target about .75" never could make it shoot better than 2.00" at 100 yds. Paid a small fortune for utter crap , Savage 110 .223 cal quite possibly the most accurate out of the box rifle I ever owned that refused to feed from the magazine even after two trips back to the factory. Never again for a european rifle or a Savage

Ruger 10/22. Thought I'd like it for cheap plinking... never turned out that way. Super finicky with ammo, and frankly boring to shoot. Really accurate though, at least it had something going for it. Going to trade it in for something bigger and better this month.

This has been an interesting thread.

Many of the firearms mentioned, I have and love.

-Boito Backpacker .410 shoots high but the wife loves it.
-Rem 597 shoots great, likes most ammo and rarely jambs.
-Mossberg Plinkster youth model shoots great and never jambs.
-All of my Rugers are handguns (wheel guns) and all are excellent.
-Norc 1911, never failed once, hits point of aim and I love it.

I bought a NEF Handi-Rifle, Bull Barrel in .223 (used with Harris Bi-pod), paid very little for it.
Terrible groups with factory ammo. After some trigger, crown, bedding and Hand load work the gun shoots great, .75" @ 100 yrds (5 round groups).

Had an old Lakefield .22LR that became my one and only full-auto firearm shortly after I bought it. Man was that fun, Ten rounds one trigger pull.

I have had great luck with all of my firearms and motorcycle purchases over the years, used or new.

Now that I've said that, should I expect trouble?
Nah, it's bad luck to be superstitious.

To the Lee Enfield nay-sayers....The OP asked for first hand accounts of WHY this is the worst rifle you've ever owned......Could you educate us as to why this rifle was your pick? I've always thought the back bone of the British army for some 100yrs would be a very reliable platform?!

Ruger Mini-14 Target

THat gun was so inconsistent with delivery of bullets, I got rid of it. Replaced it a year later with a new Ranch Mini, nothing special. The new ranch was way more consistent.

mosberg model 500 pump action 12 guage brand new in box did all the usual field stripped cleaned went to the creek to try it out loaded the tube racked the slide to chamber a round then kaboom before the bolt locked in place good thing i wear eyeglasses cause i had 2 pieces of wood in my hands, mossberg sent me a full refund for the price plus a brand new shotgun free of charge i handed it back to shop owner told him to sell it cashed the check and wont ever own a mossberg again dont even want to be beside anyone shooting one

browning bps 10 ga had to carry socket wrench to tighten stock every 20 rnds carl gustave crown grade 2506 great fit & finish slick action couldnt keep under 2.5'' at100
only rifle I ever had that I coudnt make shoot

Ithica lever .22
Miss-fired frequently then jammed just about every eject. Sometimes it wouldn't feed IIRC.
What a lesson.

Second worst was a Mossberg lever 30-30. Not enough umph in the firing pin.

Greetings,

Been lucky with rifles. The only worst rifle I have owned was a H&R Buffalo Classic and that was cause I never got a chance to shoot it before I sold it. I bought it new and had it for 6 months and never got one chance to make it go bang before selling it.

However, I have had a worst shotgun. Baikal hammered SXS coac gun. It was the one with the fake hammers (they didn't #### the shotgun, but you still had to pull them back to fire it). Damn thing would have to be cracked over my knee to open most of the time. And while I am no means a crack shot, I am not all that bad, but I still couldn't hit crap with it at the best of times. Granted, that may be all my fault, but it didn't seem to shoot to point of aim at all.

Matt
