The problem I had with that particular gun is that it would have cost me twice as much or more, than what I paid for it, to make it an accurate shooter. By the time you change the trigger, hammer, barrel, get it bedded, etc. you really don't have a Ruger 10/22 anymore. When I bought it I didn't realize I was going to have to put a lot more money into it just to make it shoot half decent. It is probable that the one I had was a lemon, as my wife's 10/22 isn't as bad a shooter, but could still benefit from the forementioned mods. ck
Mine is just a plain SS with synthetic stock model I paid $299 for, but with (home done...easy) bedding of the action it shoots extremely well. I agree that it would be rather counter to the whole idea of an inexpensive .22 if one had to do the extensive mods you suggest. Mine was pretty darned good right out of the box and I feel no need to make any additional changes from stock. But hey, we're supposed to be discussing guns we DON'T like
