The .270 Win club, are you in?

I love it--except for the too-long length of pull. As soon as I can find a really good Montréal-area gunsmith, I'm getting that fixed.

My first and (so far only) big game rifle. Browning A Bolt Stainless Stalker in 270. Consistently groups 2 inches at 200 yards at the range with factory ammo (love that BOSS). Thirteen deer in ten years ranging from 40 to 320 yards. I've made lots of mistakes but the rifle has been flawless.

You certainly don't need a BOSS to shoot 2" groups at 200 yards, even with factory loads.I owned an A-Bolt with BOSS,for a very brief time, and I will never own another one.It allows you to fine tune loads to optimize them for your rifle, but it doesn't ensure equal accuracy from all loads. As well,it took me as long to fine tune for a load,as it normally takes me to develop a handload, and the resulting accuracy was no better with the BOSS than with no BOSS,and proper loads. My BOSS equipped A-Bolt was certainly not my most accurate rifle. As well, the BOSS had a habit of loosening, which changes the point of impact, not a great thing while hunting.Lastly,BOSS equipped rifles have barrels that are two inches shorter,so that the overall length of the gun will be the same, with or without the BOSS.The result is that with a 2" shorter barrel, you do give up some velocity.I might just as well have been shooting a 280AI ,instead of a 7mmremag.

Been offered a wicked deal on a Remington 700 mountain LSS in .270 win. Held it this evening, loved the thing, Never owned a .270, always prefered the bigger brother '06... But thinking about taking the plundge..What you guys think??

Got It!!

Anywho, Regarding my earlier post; I bought the Rem 700 Mnt Lss this morning... Well put half down until next week. (kinda low on funds since Christmas). Quite excited. Beautiful looking rifle, light as heck, now....what scope should I be mounting:confused:..suggestions..Always had the higher end bushnells, but thinking about a Leupold this time (never did own one)..I want a Wicked rifle scope package..since I got the rifle..gimme your thoughts on scope and mounts.

Like a good "adult film", I'm in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out.

None at the moment. Which clearly indicates a huge gap in my gun safe. Should probably fill that.

Wonksy hit the nail on the head, the Leupold is nice and light and compact. 8x should be plenty for big game at reasonable ranges.

Now that it's 2011, I don't know why everyone doesn't shoot a .300 WBY Mag. I used to fly in the arctic and the loc's up there shot P-bears w/ a .303. Whatever anyone says, a .300 Roy will kill any living thing on earth with one shot.

PS shot placement still applies.

Awesome!!! You have arrived! Welcome to 270-Land !!!

I enjoy the non-critical eye relief of Bushnell scopes and use them almost exclusively.

Had a Leup - did enjoy it - but replaced it with a Bushnell.

Good luck with your new rifle - SD

Savage .270 with accutrigger and accustock. Aim for the bull at 250 yards and get it in the centre at any range less than 250 yds. 150 gr and 130 gr are less than 2" apart, so it's easy to adjust. It's so accurate, that it's not much challenge.

Find myself becoming more interested in black powder these days.

Ruger 1B here.

nice wood, but a tad heavier than I'd like.

bought it new in '85. mounted a Loopy 2.5x8 VariX 2 on it and have never touched it since.

it will hit a 6" plate at 300m consistantly if I do my part, with any ammo I have ever fed it. for some reason, it really loves the cheapy Federal 150grRN's but I don't hunt with them.
