^^^ Ignore the troll.
The 270 is a more flat shooting cartridge than the 30'06. It's basically a necked down 30'06 cartridge so that bullet is more aero-dynamic so it's well known to shoot more level. This means it's easier for a novice to hit his deer at 250 yards if it's sighted in for, say, 100 yards since you don't have to worry about bullet drop as much. (about 1.5" for me)
I'm not saying the 270 is superior to the 30'06. They both have earned equal accolades for excellent big game kills. Most people would aggree that it's a toss-up. The 270 is flatter shooting and is pretty much the ideal deer cartridge. The 30'06 is slightly more versatile as it can take down bigger game without as accurate shot placement. The 270 is an excellent choice for you.
I would recommend the Savage 111
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/111FCXP3. I have one and it shoots very accurately. It's also affordable at $429 including an entry level Bushnell scope. You can replace this if you like, it's basically free. This package also comes with a throwaway Simmons scope which you should avoid if possible for the one with the Bushnell scope.
Also, to the above troll: Yes, I know that recoil is complex but I was addressing another troll who said that the 270 has the recoil of a magnum. It's certainly true that a 270 in 130 grain bullet will have less recoil than a 30'06 with the common 150 grain bullet. This is, of course, with all else being equal. (rifle weight, stock design, action).
It's not a subjective opinion, just google any recoil chart for verification.
