Well, first of all when I was in the forces in the 80's, we would train with American forces on joint excercises. The American's (who had M-16's) would drop ther "plastic" rifles on the ground in amazement when they saw our C1's. They loved the rifle and would ask us if they could hold our rifles to check them out.
They loved the C1's, the thing that's funny is, our guys weren't interested in their M-16's at all.. we felt like we had (for once) something better then the Americans...and we did.

...That being said, perhaps this is what it comes to after hundreds of angry rednecks have abused your staff and yourself. It is hard to choose a side not knowing the whole story....
+1

We don't know exactly what drove him to write such a letter, but I think it's like your guess. A bunch of pissed off asshats dumping on people who had nothing to do with the gun's issues. I run my own consulting business and I kinda like the letter. :p

A while back the local cable company did a bonehead move and did a "negative billing" thing where you'd get charged for extra channels until you called and cancelled. Backfired big time! Who would want to be forced to pay for extra crap when you didn't ask for it?

My wife called up to cancel the extra channels and it was at the end of this particular customer service person's shift. My wife politely asked to cancel the extra channels. The service person thanked my wife and said that she was the first person to not yell at her! Nice....

We would have been happy with keeping the FN with the option of full auto in 7.62, The idea was bounced around about the para fn but it was decided that the choice was the c7 /c8 that would have the nato 5.56 round .But had we waited it could have been the XCR RIGHT GUYS ?

If CANADIAN soldiers would have had a choice what rifle CANADA adopted it sure as hell would not have been the AR that I know.

You're too brilliant for us. You should take your insights somewhere else, where they can be properly appreciated. I mean... you've deployed operationally with a C7/C8. Right? .... Right.

Ah, lets talk about he 80s....actually lets not since it was 30 years ago and to be frank... irrelevant to today as we are in an actual shooting match now. Where as in the 80s, we talked about fights from the past, today, the troops are doing the business. I hated the C1/C2 to be honest. The new small arms were the best thing for the CF and moved us forward not only in capability but also tactics.

You are concerned that the soldiers of today are wrong...but most of the mods to the rifles came from soldier input and there have been no issues with the rifles in combat where it really counts. Most of the army has combat experience now, and 40% of reserves too. It is a bit insulting to suggest that the guys doing the business now...that is the real business of fighting, not just talking about...don't know what is good for them. The troops have no issue with the weapon and are quite happy with the CF small arms. Our troops are the best in world and well equipped now for combat. They know what is required and to suggest they don't is silly.

The AR vs FN is a dead issue. The 308 vs 223 is a dead issue. It is only an issue for internet commandos, and those who long for the past. I don't know what else I can say to further confirm to you that it is not an issue. What happened in the 80s bears to relevence to today. Most who left the CF in the FN days would not recognize the Army of today. Motivated, fit combat proven troops.

I did want to clarify: I was incorrect when I mentioned the Robinson XCR hadn't been fielded.
Apparently it has seen active deployment with one unit. My apologies for the oversight.

Wayne R. Sneedon, better known as Beachhead, is one of the many members of G.I. Joe that rarely shows his face in public. Beachhead comes equipped with an outrageous assortment of weapons including a tactical railed crossbow, a .45 1911 pistol, an XMLR-3A laser rifle and a Robinson Arms XCR(R) Short Barrel Rifle with folding stock.
:D

I'm curious as to why if the 5.56 is such an awesome round that there is a push for rounds like the 6.8SPC to replace it?

I know nothing of ARs or XCR's, i am just starting to read and learn about them in these threads as i think i'd like to own a black rifle. It's not really my place to post in this thread with my lack of experience with this these firearms. I do however have two Parker shotguns that were built at the turn of the century...(the last century), they have 10 screws each on the outside. i can't tell you how many are on the inside as they have never been removed, or tightened, or dabbed with blue lock-tight. They have seen more water, snow and sand than all the xcr's ever shipped and they have more recoil than a .223. Im certain a fastening device can be engineered that doesn't require locktight after 50 rounds; unless of course it is an offering from a company with a narcisistic president dictating a customer deprecating policy such as has been posted earlier in this thread.

shweeeet. I need to get me one, the action figure that is, that guy is bad a$$!

Mind you if I could get a 14 or 16" barrel for my XCR and have it stay non-restricted I'd be keeping it too.

I assume, because of the opinions on internet gun boards.

Seriously? I don't care. I haven't heard a thing about 6.8 SPC in Canada. If it ever becomes a reality, then great. I'll continue to shoot as I always have. Bad guys fall down quickly with 5.56 when you know how to aim. I doubt that 6.8 SPC or any other 'wonder' cartridge will produce a discernable difference.

Placement is key.

There is not push except in the gun mags. Not one mention has been made on the CF side to replace the 5.56. Likely too busy fighting a war to armchair over cartridge ballistics! The 5.56 is getting the job done....

I've owned a few black rifles in my time.

I hated the XCR because the trigger never worked. Never. I sold my XCR with a bad trigger for a huge loss.

My AR180b is awesome. Light years ahead of the XCR and non-restricted.

The king is still the AR-15. Since 1989 I've bought and sold about 15 AR's. None of them had the problems of the XCR. The jams and problems I encountered with the XCR in 1 year, surpassed the issues I've had in all my AR's combined for 21 years.

Thats my experience.
