Rossi Puma .44 Mag

I don't think there will be a problem, as because someone has stated, there is already non-restricted mare's legs in Canada.

This is what gives me hope. I believe they will have to allow the rossi.

I'm just thrilled and excited to get one. In the abscence of the right to carry pistols in the woods, this is the next best thing in my books. not quite a hand gun (does require TWO hands to operate after all) but easy enough to carry that you can have it with you at all times, even when skinning a moose or going for a simple hike. Plus - they just look like pure fun :)

Damn you hans slayer - damn you to hell! (i'm never gonna sleep tonite, and it's still 2 months before the things show up!)

i'm definitely springing for the holser tho, the guy has a nice backpacker holster as well as those pistol belt holsters.

Foxer.

My sincerest appologies for disturbing your sleep. Not my intention at all.  I must admit though, short of being able to carry my Ruger Blackhawk on my hip, I can't think of a better currently available companion for hiking and quading in the bush.

Well this is exactly what i'm thinking. Also for hunting especially in griz areas - you HAVE to put your rifle down to deal with the deer or moose, but you can always keep this on you :)

And even tho it's not as convenient as a smaller revolver, a 44 mag coming out of a 12 inch barrel is going to hit with a lot of authority. Plus - it's got to be insane amounts of fun.

Trying to be pro-active here....With the Ranch Hands due in February, my gut says they are going to be classified as restricted due to barrel length. Plus Rossi/Tauras have really no vested interest in modifying these guns to allow easy access to the Canadian market. So my question is, if they are classified "restricted" what options can you throw at me that will:

A) satisfy the 26" OAL requirement
B) not add a whole lot to the price
C) keep the gun looking cool...

Would a full stock work, modify the buttstock??? any ideas would be helpful...I may have to tackle this project myself and want some feedback before I commit to a whole whack of restricted Ranch Hands if you know what I mean...

Throw some ideas out there and Ill put a poll up later...

Gary

I am certain that Rossi cuts down existing stocks to make the ranch hand stocks. They could cut off a little less.

I heard that they did do this for some earlier orders.

Gary, what was the LOA for the Puma Bounty Hunter?

I had heard that this was classified as non-restricted. Can you confirm? If under the 26" min. length then a precident would already be set.

I suppose that if it's only the OAL that will be the show stopper, and not the length of the barrel, then is there anyone out there to manufacture a butt stock to get this to the OAL needed?

If there nobody in Canada that's up to it, then maybe Boyds in the states would be interested in making some custom stocks. The Model 92 butt is listed on their site for $50.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that though.

I plan on putting a full stock on mine anyways so I'd be happy with that option...
Should be easy enough for Rossi to throw in some extra butt stocks and sell it with the short (restricted if under 26") and long stock ( non restricted)
Good luck and thanks Gary!

I can only confirm they were 24" in the States, have not found info on OAL on the Canadian model. I know the Chiappas had to be extended to meet the 26" requirement. I am not confident Taurus will do the same...

I dont mind going that route...call it $100 after all the BS...i think it still flys at that price...

An extended buttstock of 2" my not be all that eye catching, unless it was brass and had the Canada Firearms Centre logo on it....

Extended would be the only way to go, hard to say how it would look but i think most people wouldn't notice 2 inches of extra wood on the stock over how they come now. It would be kinda sucky for the gov't to do that but not surprising.

I guess the best option in that case would be to get them ordered full stock and then get a local guy to cut them down here. Probably cheaper than getting it done as a 'special order stock' from rossi.

I am going to be so pissed if we can't get these. I've passed up a couple of other gun deals saving my pennies for this one. But - at least wanstalls is trying it's best!

New stock/full stock.

I'm planning on building a "tacticool" lever with this baby when it arrives.

.44 Mag with a rail and Aimpoint - the coolest/smallest NR "black" rifle available.

Just curious about the classification issue... Here is a link to a Canadian retailer of the Chiappa version (oldwestguns.ca/index.php?page=products&object=235). They list the OAL as 24" and the classification as NR. Is this inaccurate?
