M14 Scope mount photos

That's a mount and not a scope.

It's also a generic chinese aluminum mount. They typically have very low performance.

Really, when it comes to the receiver mounts readily available in Canada, there are only a few choices I would even think of considering.

Namely (and in no order):

1) Sadlak steel of Titanium mounts (not the Aluminum one!!)
2) ARMS18
3) SEI if you can find one
4) one of the brookfield steel mounts, again, if you can find one.
5) *MAYBE* the new leatherwood mount. Don't quote me on this one though as I've not yet seen one in person, bu't at least it's steel.

The problem is the M14 receiver geometry is very complex for scope mounting and aluminum will tend to flex, not hold zero, and the single thumb screw on these works loose.

You can buy right and buy once, or....

I've got an ARMS carry handle mount for my AR-15 (came with the rifle when I bought it used) so who in Canada carries the ARMS 18 mount?

Thanks! Gives me something to look for.

There's no real gunsmithing (drilling & tapping) required for these mounts, is there?? I know the stripper clip guide pin must be driven out but that can be done with a hammer and nail if necessary.

I'd say usually no gunsmithing. There's some measurement difference from one receiver to another. It's why Sadlak make a receiver inspection kit. After your inspection, they'll custom fit your new mount.

I bought an ARMS18 from Wolverine to discover my M1A receiver would not fit (big cant forward). Springfield armory didn't want to help so instead of filling the mount, a got a refund for it.

I wish you better luck!

I just scoped out my Norinco M305 with a ARMS #18 mount looks great but I was very disapointed when I went to the range. I was unable to zero on the target at 50 yards. It was shooting about 2 feet to the left. I could shim the base to bring it over but I was also haveing a problem with shells jamming. I noticed a picture of a open ARMS # 18 and read here that this was an early model. Has anyone mod there ARMS #18 mount so that it is open or does this make it to weak.

Modified or older ARMS #18 mount

My tricked out Norinco. Yes that is an original 1966 E2 stock I bought 20 years ago.

Springfield armory released a Gen 4 scope mount, available in steel. It's open in the middle. Maybe they finally did it right!?

The M14 receiver is NOT an easy thing to attach a scope mount to.

All of those M14 scope mount designs that rely on seating securely in that tiny, often out of spec, clip guide dovetail, and tightening JUST RIGHT on that very short 12/32 Side bolt, often don't come close to alignment, either vertically or horizontally, without some shimming. And that method of attaching a mount creates stresses that cause a built in tendency to shoot loose, even with loctite and high torque.

If you don't mind giving up the rear iron sight,

the much larger, better machined, more secure rear sight pocket makes a much better place to attach the rear of any M14 scope mount.

BTDT,
had a better idea.

You figure they would have developed a built-in scope base for the M14 by now. Somthing like the Mini-14 uses. If Norinco made one I would be first in line to get one.

That Gen 4 model looks interesting. I like that it is also longer. I always have a problem with eye relief.

They are selling for $150 US. Maybe some local shops can get them in.

Just what I need, or even a flat pad where you could mount a standard scope base would be nice.

Checked out that site I like that tanker model but the prices are a bit much.
